internal lights

i have a sprite alpine 2 2008 the internal lights only work when plugged into the hook up not from the caravan battery

All your fuses are checked and good? What about other 12v functions, pump, loo flush, any 12v sockets?

Sounds like a flat battery or blown main fuse.
Check your battery with a multimeter, you're looking for 12.7 volts or more. Anything less it may need charging or replacing.
Check along the red wire leading from the battery into the van. There should be an in-line fuse close to the battery box.

As Mr Grumpy says you should find a 20amp Battery fuse usually inside the caravan behind the Battery box. Often hidden under water pipes or heater ducting.

Like someone else I know I have a battery because ours was on 13.8 volts our electric is on pay you go meter system it went off but the lights, fridge , water pump, and 12v sockets all okay next morning back to normal when put money on card

Did you switch the fridge to gas? Maybe consider getting an inverter as at least you can watch TV if you wished to so.

@ken bysouth It could be that your battery isn't holding its charge , do you have a battery monitor(gauge) on your caravan's control panel? if so when on charge it should be 13.8 V ,if the voltage drops immediately once you turn off the mains electricity , then it is probably a fuse( 20A marked Van Batt) , if it drops away slowly then its the battery not holding its charge

Do you think your fridge ran off the 12 v battery when the EHU failed?
I can understand the fridge control panel working off the battery but not the heating element? Or is yours connected differently??

We forgot to top the electric card up but we are on the pay as you go meter system ( but now we top it up on every visit) one minute watching doghouse next we were left with the lights but the fridge was working but kept bleeping but the stuff was cold but we had hot water but on a low level but our caravan has 2 solar panels on the roof .

I suspect the reason the fridge stayed cold is because of its insulation. Same for hot water.

Ken b,. My 20 amp yellow fuse is situated below the removable bottom panel of the wardrobe once this is lifted it can then be seen at rest on the top of the battery box..

When, on our Coachman, if the EHU fails, and we have the fridge set to Automatic it goes directly to gas as long as we have 12 volts to the fridge supply, the same happens for the hot water / heating, Trauma Combi unit.
