There are plenty of sites, but

depending when in the season you are thinking about dictates just how full the sites will be.

Near the beach and teenage friendly......Whitecliff Bay, large commercial site, has its own club, direct access to beach and good size pitches, BUT it gets very busy in peak season as it is very close to Sandown, but not walking distance. Its not cheap either. Sandown has the best nightclubs for teenagers at Colonel Bogeys, on the seafront, lots of good pubs and eating places.

Family friendly, ...The Orchards, near Yarmouth, not close to beaches, local pub not too far away, good site with swimming pool well kept.

Close to town, bit further to beach....Landguard Manor , Shanklin, big commercial site, very busy in season, can suffer from overcrowding and facilities are stretched. Has club etc.

Good base site.....The Old Barn at Lake, between Sandown and Shankiln, has individual pitches fully serviced, but is a quiet site, just out from the main tourist towns, but close enough to be useful.

Inland... Rookley Park, between Newport and Godshill. Site is undergoing further improvements and looks good so far. Mainly statics but with increasing touring and tent places.

Own pub/club, coarse fishing on site, good central base to explore from.

Just a few of the sites to give you an idea.

Whatever you do, think twice before considering Park Resorts, they will not meet your expectations, and that is all I will say about them.

Ferries, very user friendly, they will take great pleasure in relieving you of wads of cash to travel on them, BUT some good deals are to be had, just be careful who the whole deal is tied into with, ie which site you will have to use.

There is no need to remove aerials before boarding, there is plenty of room above the van.

Red Funnel run every hour or so from Southampton to East Cowes. Wightlink run every 30 minutes from either Lymington to Yarmouth or Portsmouth to Fishbourne.

Booking is ESSENTIAL throughout the whole of the main summer holiday period, especially at weekends.

Agree re Southlands - it has won awards.

The disadvantage with using Tesco vouchers is that you can only use them against the full fare - which can be up to

We stayed at whitecliff bay for 2 weeks at peak time last year (2006) and found it one of the best hol's we've had! Shower/ toilet bocks were spotless at all times, the pools are great and entertainment is good. And it's right on the beach. Best of all the ferry was free and the two week holiday cost less then

We atayed at The Orchards last Sept. Would go again but would ask to be sited at the bottom as it was quite a long walk to the dog walk from the top.

Only 10min's from the Yarmouth Ferry.

No where on the IOW is very far!
