Isle of Wight sites

Has anyone been to Whitefield Forest or Southlands on the island and are they any good, also do they have seperate areas for tents and caravans or are they intermingled.

Hi Jasper,

we stayed at Southlands last May and found this site to be immaculate with very friendly owners.We have a twin axle van and found entry no problem and the pitch quite large.Tents were intermingled at that time although the site was quiet due to the time of year.Does not cater for famillies so much as for adults,no entertainment but perfect for what we wanted.Would certainly recommend and if we went back to IOW we would stay there again,Check out their website as this is also first class in fact probably the best site website I have come across. Hope this helps

Thanks Dave, Yes we have looked at the website and it does look appealing, it's just the tents next door to caravans we are not too keen on, nothing against tentists as such just that noise travells and all that.

not been to either of those sites, but would thoroughly recommend Heathfields, at Freshwater. Massive pitches, immaculate, 5 Mins from ferry at Yarmouth, walk into town, walk to beaches, just great. You are next to tents, but as this is the quiet side of the Isle then you don't get noisy groups.

Thanks for the reply Gareth, will have a look at that one, maybe I'm just a bit paranoid about being next to tents after a bad experience we had on a site a couple of years ago.

we were on southlands this august and thought the site was great.the tents are in with the vans but we didnt find this a problem at all.as has been said before the staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble.highly recomended,and weve booked for next year aswell.

Whitefields is fantastic - superb location and all carved out of the forest by the owners themselves. Amenities block is immaculate and modern, their private bathrooms are like being in a hotel.

Tents and caravans are separate with tents getting the top area but all pitches level and have hookups etc.

They do inclusive packages too, we paid about

Thanks for the info Jonathon, it appears that since I first asked about these 2 sites that Southlands is in the process of being taken over by the Caravan Club and as from April 2009 will be run as such. This probably won't affect our decision as at the moment we are leaning towards Whitefield Forest.

hi jasper , i do hope your information is wrong .we must say this has been the most welcoming site we have stayed at .[ no snooty wardens who moan all the time] . we have booked for next august so we'll await the outcome.
