Hi chic, just returned from IOW, having spent ten nights at Southlands. The site is excellent and spotless, all staff very helpful and welcoming. The pitches are very good and roomy, we had one with our own tap.

We had a package from the site which included ferry, we travelled Red Funnel via Southampton / East Cowes but the site will book you via Portsmouth on Wightlink if you prefer, both similar in my opinion.

The holiday was so nice that we have booked for next summer.

Hope you enjoy you time on the island. Tony

We had a static van on the Park Resorts' 'Nodes Point' resort...

Very nice location. Great facilities - pool, bars, evening entertainment for kiddies... It accomodated a lot of touring vans on a hillside running down to a small, secluded beach (which was great for the kids when the sun shone!).

I'd go back there next year, no problem.

There are lots of other campsites - some more basic than others. I don't think you'd have a problem going 'on spec' as it were, though I appreciate that this is not an ideal thing to do.

Hi Chic

I like the Lymington Yarmouth crossing, by far the prettiest, but unless you are coming from the Bournmouth direction forget it. All other routes to Lymington take you through Lyndhurst and its an absolute nightmare in tha summer. The other two crossing are well signposted, but obviously both Pompey, and Soton get pretty busy. Have you checked out their websites? www.wightlink.co.uk and www.redfunnel.co.uk also another site that might be of interest is www.iwight.com. You will probably get a better deal booking a combined site and crossing, either through a ferry company or a site. Both the CCC & CC have sites on the Island and do all in packages. Southlands is a super site, although I have never stayed there I have seen it mature over the years. Lots of other sites on the Island some good others not so good. I like the Island but then I have lived here for 35 years, we have some lovely scenery and countryside, but then so does the west of Scotland.

Colin
