It's Fitted

Hi All, Just to let you know my bargain Powrwheel motor mover has been fitted today by Brian the fitter. Slight problem encountered my 85amp battery did not have enough charge in it to actually do a test run, but Brian had the rollers running but not under load. I said I would get a new 110amp battery to replace the 85amp but Brian said my charger on the caravan would not charge this size battery. I'd be grateful for your thoughts on this, the caravan is a 2004 Swift Challenger 500se.

Thanks

Graham (Ponty)

Graham, we got a 110amp battery on an 2007 Abbey vogue 495 and it is plugged in all the time. the onboard charger charges the battery fine.

Hello Graham,

If your charger will charge an 85Ah battery the it will charge a 110Ah, but it will take longer.

What caravan chargers will not do, is to charge a battery to its full capacity, because it only puts out 13.8V. The voltage is limited to prevent excessive out gassing of the battery during charging.

You can buy multi-stage chargers that will fully charge batteries and then automatically switch to a maintenance rate.

Thanks lads for the reply, I didn't quite understand what he ment when he said my caravan charger would not charge a 110amp battery, it charges the 85amp no problem at all.

Thanks

Graham (Ponty)
