Is it me but ever since the forum changed it seems to have gone very quiet, maybe its because the forum is so damm slow although I love the new look it aint gonna work if no one uses it.

Please sort it out before its too late, it really is a pool of information, but the pool is drying out !!!!

The site is a lot quicker now, but there are only 6 users on line( or showing as on line) but with it being the start of the Bank Holiday, that does not surprise me.

I expect many are away for the weekend

By the looks of the road outside out house yesterday all caravans have gone to Norfolk and Suffolk. We re now staying with friends in their Static van on the Suffolk coast for the weekend. Weather lovely this morning, Sunny and warm. Free wifi and good.
I think the new website is brilliant and thanks to everyone at PC for making it work. Once all the holidays are over I am sure it will be very busy indeed. The problem is withnearly everyone changing their names you don't know who is who.

Oh my mistake Its alot quicker today, must have been my end last night that was slow. As for it being quiet, well I forgot it was bank holiday maybe because I am working this one.

Keep up the good work chaps, and long may the information keep flowing :)

I have to admit I did prefer the old forum - it was far easier to follow regarding new postings, etc. as the appropriate heading always came to the top of the section list. Still who am I to complain - I am just a small cog in a very big wheel LOL.

I also prefered it,suppose its what were used to.I had no beef with the old forum and still have no beef with the revamped version.I think maybe one problem was it was a swine of a job to re-configure to this later revamped forum for me anyway, dont know about anyone else? Maybe no one can be bothererd with the hassle of changing over.I realise a lot of names have changed, but there seems to be alot of people missing.

I've been having the same thoughts, since the change-over there have been less postings, some of the characters from the old forum seem to have disappeared. There also seems to be less fun on here now. It feels like a close relative has died and we are all in mourning. I have had a post in Towcars called "Land Rover Discovery 3 good or bad????" which started about a month or 2 ago disappear, even though I had added a thread to it 3 days ago. If I google the title of the post I find it, but when I do a search on the forum its not here???? So folks whats gone wrong, and why fix something that was not broken???

Most of them are still around albeit with different usernames in some cases. The 'characters' who used to engage in arguments or were abusive and aggressive were banned from the old forum and they remain banned from this one.

There are plenty of new members joining the forum and hopefully now that the issue with forum speed has been sorted out some of the members who have gone elsewhere will come back.
There is a similar thread in the General section

http://www.practicalcaravan.com/forum/general/where-are-they-all
As I wrote in the other thread if more of us welcomed the new members so that they stayed around the forum would soon liven up.

The technical guys need to find out why posts disappear and fix the problem. The old forum was definitely broken and members and moderators alike often complained about it.

Hi Parksy,

Thank you for clearing up a few of my concerns. I guess I have got so used to the old format and being an old dog find it hard to accept change. I did find the old format a lot easier to navigate around.
I fully agree about postings being hi-jacked and used for off topic stuff and for slagging off others choice of towcar, caravan etc. Therefore I agree a change was quite necessary to quell the waters.

This new style can take a bit of getting used to David and new posts seemed easier to spot on the old forum because they were shown at the top. We could really do with a 'new post' icon to flag up new posts but for the time being the time and date to the right of topics gives a good indication of when new posts or comments are added.
During the darker nights the forum often becomes busier and I'm sure that the new version of the forum will be enjoyed by all more than the old one was given time.
At least mods can actually do something on this newer version if those with less than genuine motives

try to cause problems for our loyal and genuine members. Nobody should have to put up with being wound up,ridiculed or insulted as sometimes happened in times past and this will no longer happen now that we've gone all modern.

There were loads and loads of moans about the old forum: couldn't find anything; would mysteriously slow right down (like a phantom traffic jam); no emoticons, no avatars; hard for Mods to edit and worst of all folks could get on, posing as other forum members and create all sorts of upset. OK there are some bits on this new incarnation that could do with tweaking but so far I think this is much better. I was afraid it would get all flashing and hyperactive like a certain "carry on" , but it hasn't. Clearly JD and his team are overworked and rather like the phenomenon of the vanishing builder have gone off on another job before properly completing this one. This is rather irksome, but I have no idea what pressures they are under. It is up to forum members to make this forum interesting and engage and welcome new members. nuff said

I am going to print this out and hang it on our wall.

That's one way of putting it, yes.

Ouch. Yes, we are balancing a number of conflicting priorities (Suit: "JD, I want four new websites by the end of the year. Go."), but we're continuing to refine PCV - 15 defect fixes went into our staging environment yesterday, and would go live today if going live on Fridays wasn't banned...
