jockey wheel tyre

I have an inflatable jockey wheel tyre, but they only seem to last 12 month, then end up split and cracked why??
They'r not really cheap and surly should last as long as the van tyre. Anyone else found this ?.

Hello Graham,
I know caravanners who have had inflatable jockey wheel tyres for many years, so I can only assume you are somehow managing to damage or over stress your tyre.

However because they are not designed for high speed running they are manufactured to a lower specification than road tyres.

I do wonder if you mat be over pressurising it? or does it go down quite quickly? Is it free to rotate on its axle?

Hi Prof, it does seem to go down fairly quick and the valve stem is so short its a B to get at. I took the whole unit to pieces last week and cleaned and re greased it , I noticed that the plates the wheel fits on were buckled so straightened those . Could be a bit heavy on nose weight ? thats a job for today me thinks , although i have takel some out of the locker already.
