I know I'm a cynical old buffer, but i would say that anyone looking round a modern caravan site in the evening would think us a miserable anti-social bunch, with the caravan blinds down and the telly on, and woe betide anyone who has the temerity to suggest a social drink OUTSIDE!

We're at Kingsbury Water Park C&CC site this weekend Emmerson, If your passing by, pass by ! LoL.
Happy caravanning.
On the serious side, we have been caravanning some 35 yrs, been fortunate enough to have moved on from glass windowed caravan days ( when people would help others with awnings and offer a cuppa when arriving ) to owning several new caravans and I'm sure that nowadays people have gone into their shells and don't even offer pleasantry's on site.

Could it be that the Caravan site is just a microcosm if the wider world that we live in?

Outdoors , there is nice people out there for example , me ! I remember this this may on site a couple pulled in or should I say father and daughter with a brand new Swift , still with the price tag on, just picked it up and come straight to site and was trying to put the awning up and his wife was just sitting there watching I felt so sorry for him so I went over and gave him a hand she Returned a few hours later with some beer for me and my wife ! They said they had heard it only took one person 20 minutes to put up !! oh how the lesson was learnt.

A nice helpful person

Extra edit , And in Holland just recently donnned my waterproof to help a family of five but just the Dad put up an awning full size in the chucking down torrential rain that we had !!

Do I care how others perceive me?

As a grumpy old git I couldn't care less.
I arrive in my dirty trousers, t shirt and trainers or wellies ready to pitch up and erect the awning.
Then all dirty and muddy I withdraw to the site facilities and make good use of all the designer stuff behind :p :p
Like Craig I spent 30 mins at Ullapool helping an elderly couple get their sky sat working.
Caravanning is about real people , not snobs I hope :)

Totally agree DD, we're the same. I could have done with an offer of help 4 years ago at Bridlington when Lady Therapy and the girls had gone home ill and me on sticks still at the time, took 8 hours to get the awning down and pack up. Help you must be joking, not one offer!!!!

And yet, in France last year we sat outside with a bottle of red on the table, and within half an hour there was quite a gathering, which went so well that the bar-owner came up to see where all his customers were!
We were mainly Brits but a couple of French joined later, so maybe its only when we're in our home country that we get miserable!
Or is it that they cannot get British television in Europe?

Wish I could Outdoors, but we're temporarily grounded! Kingsbury is one of fave sites. We should have been there two weeks ago.
BTW, we booked a pitch there for next March just recently and got one of the last four pitches!

As folks who are always ready to help out, we have assisted with caravan shoving, awning wrangling, loose dog retrieval and technical (albeit basic) advice. However, there is always the danger of interfering so we proceed with helpful caution. Last time we were out, it appeared that a woman was putting up an awning on her own. Me and OH were wandering over to offer help when muffled shouts (of the divorce in a bag kind) from between the awning canvas and the van indicated that she wasn't alone in her endeavours. We nonchalantly wandered back again, and observed from a distance. They were doing fine so we left them to it.

I know I don't mind offering a helping hand or help to anybody but observe first to see if they need it before barging in or interfering !
