Hi, looking for some advice as I havent got a clue about caravans.. I bought a caravan from a guy at work, its a bit tatty and requires a bit of work, its a ABI award knightstar and I payed £500 for it.. There was no paperwork with it, and I cant find any identifying munbers or anything, apart from what looks like a small serial number on a plaque by the door, its about 8 digits long.. how can I find out the year? and maybe some history about the caravan.. I.e. if its been previously stolen..

Thanks

Shaun

Hi Shaun

I think that your caravan will be a 1988 model. If your workmate didn't give you any paperwork with the caravan unfortunately it will be difficult to establish whether or not the caravan is stolen.

Had the seller got any bills, receipts or anything to prove that the caravan was his to sell?

No he had no paperwork or receipts or anything.. I know hes had it parked up in a field for a few years, his parents stayed in it when they come visit from down south.. I dont think he'd deal in anything stolen, although it does appear to have been broken into at some point and has had different locks fitted to the door.. The original lock has no key.. And all the locks on the outside storage have been damaged and have no keys, they open with a screwdriver..

I'd advise you to check the brakes and tyres before towing the caravan. Even though the tyres may have more than the legal minimum amount of tread the sidewalls become degraded after four years or so which could result in a blowout.

Yeah Im gonna get all that checked out before I take it anywhere.. How could I find out if its been stolen before or not? I wouldnt want to be towing a stolen caravan about.. It seems a bit funny about the locks all been damaged, as though the original keys have either been lost or they never had them to start with..
