Hi everyone, can anyone who has experienced towing a twin axle 1800 weight Caravan with a Kia Seddona 2.9 diesel leave me some feedback on the capabilities of this vehicle.

Thanks

Richard,

We have an 1800Kg twin axle caravan which we tow with a current model Sedona diesel auto.

It's an excellent outfit, the Sedona is a vastly superior towcar to our previous MPV (Toyota Previa). It has a kerb weight of 2189Kg (Auto), max tow 2000Kg and noseweight 2189Kg. We've had it a year and towed up steep hills and on exposed viaducts with crosswinds.

It behaves extremely well in all circumstances, having the torque for hills and power to accelerate and pull out on motorways to overtake lorries.

Stability is very good in all circumstances, last week on a viaduct near Chester we saw a Mondeo with a small single axle have a nasty swerve in the sidewind; ours twitched at the same time but it was no problem (the ATC on the caravan may also have played a part here).

Downsides: It's huge (uncomfortably wide for most parking spaces; some have been unreliable (ours had one known fault on delivery, fixed first time); parking brake is foot operated.

Positives: It's huge (really spacious inside); excellent value; equipment is brilliant (remote controlled sliding doors and DVD are great for kids); powerful and an excellent towcar.

Richard,

I have a man 2005 version of the sedona. My van is single axel 1259 and at times you forget your towing. Passed a large 4x4 a couple of years ago who was struggling uphill on a duel carrageway nr Brixham with ease. MPG suffered a bit on that run due to heavey stop start traffic around the Bristol area, otherwise 30ish towing. Turning circle is a bit naff, so you need to take this into account when parking. My version has the three seats at the rear which I don't use, use it as space for a dog and some luggage. The newer version has the three seats centre, much better has you then have a five seatter rather than four in the rear seats are removed. I have done 34000 now and will probably renew the tyres before the next MOT but they are still leagal. I have no regrets buying this MPV and intend keeping it for another 2-3yrs, can't say that for my previous vehicles.

Hi Richard

We've a 56 plate Sedona 2.9 TS auto and tow a Pageant Burgundy.

Tows an absolute dream, but what we really like is the room, you can virtually throw everything in the back (with the 2 rear seats down) if you start out 11th hour as we usualy have to.

Towing on good A roads or motorway on cruise is both effortless and comfortable.

Being an auto, manouvering on site is easier as well.

The only downside is fuel and tax, although the newer 07 on models are a lower tax bracket.

Would definetely consider another one especially if they fit the new Hyundai 2.2 diesel that coming out.(they're owned by Hyundai I believe).

All in all lovely stable tow car with stacks of room.

Hi,

Im on my second sedona an 05 manual And I tow a 1900kgs Compass Rallye T/A the car is ideal for towing the heavier type vans without resorting to a 4x4.I have towed all over europe and found them to be totally reliable and for the price I do not think you can get a better towcar.
