Hi Jenny

Firstly look at "uksorento.com" web site/ forum.

There are over 1500 Sorie owners, me included . More than 500 of us have fitted a German Power Box supplied by Taff Jones of Griffin Motor Tuning in Ireland together with a K & N performance air filter.

See Taff's site "www.griffinmotortuning.net

Tel No: 003536732935

Mobile : 00353868068581

Taff is a Welshman now running a successful engineering in Ireland.

You will see from the Sorento forum members just how fantastic the Powerbox is. The K&N filter furtehr improves BHP and Torque.

Mine is a pre face lift april 2005 model.

BHP is up from 140 to 167

Torque up from 343 Nm to 386NM

The car is more tractable, smoother and pulls much better. Fuel consumption has not changed very much but is marginally improved. It is great. Currently sells at Euros 365.00. A lot cheaper than the one you have ben offered. If you live near North Wiltshire I will gladly show you mine, so to speak!

Give Taff a call and I am sure he will tell you all about it.I have no knowledge of the DPT version.

Cheers

Hi jennifer

whilst I dont have a Sorento I have fitted a DPT unit to my Merc ML. The change in performace was awesome. I honestly dont know the figures but in generally it felt a lot livelier and more responsive and towing it seemed less strained (not that the ML struggles in the first place)

However I actually noticed a significant negative drop in my mpg , I lost about 3-4mpg. But on saying that I think there may have been other factors such as a problem with the car which is currently being addressed by the dealer and fault valve onthe tyres which caused uneven pressures.

I took the unit off after about a month because the vehicle was in and out of the garage and I didn't want to risk voiding the warranty.

That said I will put it back on when we start to tow again and see how it goes.

Dont buy one of these units on the basis of fuel savings as I think its very debateable that they make a vehicle significantly more fuel efficient alot of that will be down to your driving style. Mine is floor and go!!!!! (probably the other reason for low mpg....leaving boy racers at the lights!!!!!

What I found was that the improved torque enables the use of a higher gear at a lower road speed . This is how we tend to drive these days and hence there is little or no change in mpg. Towing the Wyoming is a treat with more power. However as you say if you bot it and use the power all the ay then , yes , I suspect an increase in mpg will happen.

Can you really see me doing a burn up at the traffic lights in a 2.4 ton Sorento!

The common factor is that the decent boxes do work.

Perhaps it may be worth a mention that the "New" sorento already has a bhp of 168.

I would like to know if anyone has converted the beast to LPG? and how does it affect the warranty

Diesels wont run on LPG. The 3.5 litre Sorie is not really practical here in terms of consumption but yes that could go with LPG. True the facelift Sorie has a more powerful engine but then with a Powerbox it can be increased even furtehr. HAve alook at the websites I suggested and have a word with Taff at Griffin Motor Tuning for more data.

Cheers
