Try whatcar.com for matching.

I asked this question a while back,I was told the main thing that lets the Sorento down is the fuel consumption, low 20s towing.

Jo-anne

I've had a Sorento since july 2005 and am very pleased with her.

Have a look at our Sorento forum and it will tell you everything you need to know.

I have the new model Santa Fe. I get 36-38 mpg solo and 28 - 32 towing depending on how i am pressing on.

I tried both of these cars [along with several others] & imo the sante fe is far better all round. I found the Sorento ride very harsh even solo. I am well pleased now i have had the Santa Fe almost a year and 10k miles. I have the CDX7 which I think is extremely good value with all the kit on it and the 5 year warranty is a definite. not that i have used it!!

Hi Jo-anne.

I have an 07 pre face lift manual Sorento CRDT and tow a Bailey Pageant 1400kg. I get 26mpg towing and 35 solo (both on long distances - obviously less for stop start journeys). I dont think this is bad considering the size and weight of both the car and van. Thinking back over many years I think this has been very much the norm with all the outfits I have had, and all of them were considerably smaller/lighter than this one, with nowhere near the luxury and comfort.

The automatic is very desirable but I think it is definitely more thirsty, and it costs

Hi jo-anne

Had our 2.5 auto Sorento for nearly two years now and cannot fault it, when you consider the price I think its hard to find a better towcar. Relatively pleased with the fuel consumption tend to get around 30 solo and 24 towing 1500kg. Changing the van this friday and the new van will be 1800kg so may lose a bit more mpg towing. As mentioned earlier the auto is great for towing, but the earliest auto's only have a four speed the five speed came in around 04 plate.

I've had both. Now have a sorento (05) and it is excellent in all respects for towing. (1500 kg single axle). The ride is harder than the santa but a league apart for towing. Towing about 25 and solo 31 ish. (we have the automatic.) the santa was good and comfortable but could wobble a bit with the bigger van. 35 solo and 30 towing. this was a manual 53. If you are buying second hand:

sorento had metal door liners on base of back doors that rusted away. they should have been replaced by plastic ones under warranty.

santa- don't touch petrol ones as they drink fuel. Also some early ones up to 54 I think had a bimass flywheel which meant that the clutch was not up to towing. If customers complained they changed it under warranty-if they didn't complain nothing was done about it.

Again if buying second hand have the 4 wheel alignment checked on both, as tyres are dear. Also there are some reporst of problems with transfer boxes on teh sorento so check it engages properly- you'll hear it clunk and shake the car if it is OK.

hope this helps

Hi, been towing with the new Santa Fe since the Summer. South of France and back - superb. Our van is 7.2 m long with max weight of 1460 kgs. Tows this very nicely returning 27/28 mpg. Hives an average of 36 mpg solo. Driver's seat is most comfortable seat I've had the pleasure to have sat in. Huge boot, especially with seats down. Look forward to driving every time.

Hi Jo-anne, we are on our second Sorento now! absolutely love them, we get around 35mpg solo, around 23-25 towing, the Hymer weighs 1800kg!

I don't think you can beat them, look at how many awards they have won, you don't see many other tow cars with the Sorentos pedigree!

There is no comparison in my opinion.

Hope this helps, Andrew & Sally.

Thanks for your response to my c-crosser query. We have an 05 Sedona and the Motability contract expires in May, but our Sedona has been super. The odd niggle but it has not let us down and tows up the side of a house. Wheelchair and power unit go in without folding down w/chair. Not too sure about the new Sedona - no hand/parking brake.
