Kia Sportage or Sorento

I am in the process of buying Coachman VIP 545/4 caravan, with a MIRO of 1635 kg. A Kia Sportage looks ok on weight, but with only a 2 litre (diesel) engine, I wondered if it is up to the job. Or do I have to look at Sorentos, which could be a little overkill?

Thanks,

Paul

Sportage would im afraid not be quite upto the job and i think you would be at about 95% on the weight ratio.

At that i would go for the Sorento.

i have a Sportage , had it form new on an 07 plate, and now have Charisma with a MTPLM of 1500kg, and you do notice it. My previous sterling had an MTPLM of 1380kg it was a bit easier.

We pull our VIP 535/4 with a Sorento, thought it was going to be too big at first but Sportage just wasn't big enough. Sorento every time.

Go the Sorento route. Plenty out there at good prices.

We have a Challenger 570 with MTPLM of 1565kg, that I am towing with a Kia Sportage 'Titan' model, giving me an 86% match. Whilst I am new to caravanning, I have now towed it for about 600miles without any problems, and am very happy with it for normal day to day driving.

Best regards,

George

Hi paul, all I will say is Sorento, Sorento Sorento !! you will not find a better tow car.
You will find a better towbar, what you should say is you wont find a better/value towcar for the money.

Typo should say "you will find a better towcar"
Not sure you are on the same subject as the rest of us. I would suggest you read the thread again and then if you wish to comment do so with comments that have meaning to the subject. I say again. You will not find a better tow car. Not that difficult to follow is it?

Its simple you quote " you will not find a better towcar" and my answer is yes you will!

You will not find a better value towcar.

There is a difference?

As you said not difficult to follow?

So Michael,

You are not a Kia Sorento fan?

Unfortunately wallets determine exactly what a lot of us can afford.

Not at all Dustydog i regard them as great value towcars, they do everything they say on the tin and more.

The statement is just not correct.

Michael

It was only his opinion which strangely enough for some years was endorsed by various mags.

I've done all the 85k miles in mine. Apart from the usual l services only the EGR valve and pipes had to be changed this year.

The OP merely asked if he should go for the Sportage or Sorento.

If he wanted to know about other cars I'm sure they'd be plenty of replies .

I'm just a bit too dogged these days to be too pedantic!

Cheers
