We just got a kia sportage late 2007 model xs diesel. The towing limit states 1600kg on the log book however I have read in a few places that in the uk the tow limit is 1800. Can anybody throw any light on this

If the vehicle spec states 1600kg, then you are stuck with that figure as that is the figure VOSA will use.
Exactly which model is it?
If, for example it is KiaKia Sportage (05-10) 2.0 CRDi XS (138bhp) 5d then the towing max limit is 1800kg.
However other models have lower limits.

and find yiur specific model it should give you the figures.

is it the 4x4 or 2wd i have the tucson the same car and thats 1800 plus forgot the exact numbers.Just got new van and got them to check it as i did before i whent to buy it and it was ok for the van at 1500 max but dont run it fully loaded.
Thanks all for your comments, the car is the xs 2007 138 and the reg doc does state 1600kg for braked towing. its not a major problem cus I will only be towing 1480kg but Im still confused.

Having checked my hand book and V5 the diesel 2007 variant its 1600kg braked trailer weight. Tow hitch load is 75kg.
Mines the 2007 and had it from new.

The confusion around the tow weight is because of the year of manufacture. In December 2007 the Sportage was updated with few changes, 1 being the gearing changed and the tow weight raised from 1600kg to 1800kg. One of the other changes is the indicator stalk was moved from rh side of steering wheel to the lh side, so my new (to me) sportage indicator stalk being on the right would make it pre facelift and thus a 1600kg max tow.

mines march 2007. i also drive a beemer and i am forever hitting the wipers when i indicate or indicating when i want the wipers.
the xs diesel is a great tow car,i pull a swift charisma 565(1480mtplm) with mine and it never wobbles. Brilliant.
I will check the handbook tonight and let you know what my max braked trailer weight is but i am sure its 1800kg.
just a little hints, change the pollen filters,otherwise you will suffer rom lots of condensation on the inside of the windscreen if you use the aircon a lot.. The pollen filters are hiding behind the glove box.
edit - which is quite lucky for me as its not, its 1600kg and my van is 1500kg mtplm......

Well had the car for just over a week and love it, towed with it last w/e in the strong wind from Minehead to Tiverton, and again this w/e from Tiverton to Highbridge, both times towed like a dream and not a twitch in the wind last week. Even though the tow limit is 1600kg the kerb weight is over 1800kg, so towing 1400kg is a sinch for this tug. MPG seems pritty good but will not really be able to tell untill we get a couple of weeks without towing and then a good long to for towing MPG.
its a very under rated tow car. 1st gear is a bit short but after that its a dream. Get it on the flat at 60 and in 6th and it trundles along all day with out a hint of a problem.
