Can anyone give me some information on this site please ?

We are going there in the middle of June, and hope it is as nice a site as it says in the brochure.

This is the largest site we have ever stayed on, and that concerns me a little, but the facilities sound very good, and it is not far from the beach.

Is there a best/worst beach in this area, and are there any hazards for dogs in this area - I have read some horror stories about caterpillars, and sandflies which hopefully willnot affect ouor holday here.

any advice and tips for a nice holiday at this site would be greatly appreciated - nice places to eat, supermarkets, beaches etc.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, and I wish you all a very happy holiday season for 2009.

Kind regards

James

We visited this site late May early June last year. After Whit week the site quietened so it should not be too lively in the mobile homes by mid June. We were pleased with the site - nice pool area, bar and restaurant. We had quite a bit of rain at the end of May and the local beach had a lot of seaweed washed up which attracted the flies. However the beach at St Jean de Monts was good, spacious, virtually empty and only a short drive away. Good supermarkets (Super U and Intermarche) which you will probably pass on the way in if you are going via Challons. I think the better pitches are to the right of the main driveway through the site and probably one stage back from the play area although there will not be too many children using this mid June. Did not see any caterpillars or any other insects at that time of year.

V good site with english speaking staff. Serviced pitches if required, and available, some limited shade on some parts of the site. Excellent swimming pool etc. Nearest beach approx 15 min walk but best beaches are at St Jean de Monts. For these beaches park at southern end of promenade it is not as busy. Saw no evidence of caterpillars etc, some paths through nearby woods for dog walks?? Recommended site.

I am also booked on a serviced pitch at this site at the end of June. Does anyone know if I need to bring a hose for the grey water drainage and if so how much is needed?

Thanks

Paul

The short answer is yes. But be aware, as on a lot of sites the Fench believe water flows uphill and as such the entrance to the drain can be a few inches (cms if you are of that age!!) above ground level so that needs to be addressed. I carry 6 x section of 32mm rigid plastic pipe with push on connectors to help overcome this, I also carry fishing rod rests that push into the ground to help the flow of waste. Also worth a mention is the smell that was coming off our drain at La Yole, plastic bags pushed around the outflow pipe and into the actual drain solved this problem.

Thanks very much for your advice, I will take all the pipes that you suggest.

We stayed at La Yole in August last year. We have three young children and they loved the pool and the play areas. There is a great cycle network through the forests to Jean de Monts and the beaches between Jean de Monts and St Giles are excellent. The onsite club house put on lots of themed children's entertainment in the evenings. The pitches near the entrance way are very small and are a tight squeeze for a caravan, awning and car. We had one of the new pitches at the back of the site that had been created for a static but was yet to be occupied so we had plenty of space.
