I'd be very interested to read any views too particularly about SD versions. I've so far established that both engines are belt cam but with 150,000 mile change requirement (which should be enough), that the boot will hold a full size spare in a floor recess, and that tyres are not unidirectional. That's two and a half ticks on my 'must have' list

I've been towing with a Freelander 2 for the past four years. Liked it so much I am now on my second. Tows my Ranger GT60 520/4 no problem at all and returns around 27mpg towing and 37mpg solo. Very impresive off road too, I'm a keen salmon fisherman and use it to get me to riverbanks all over the country. Difficult to find anything to criticise, no problems with either of them.

Good to hear you are happy with yours.
We got a FL2 when we got a heavier caravan and are not disappointed with it and would certainly have another one.

Hi
I have had a 2008 HST Freelander for two years now, having changed from a P38 Range Rover.
I was disappointed at first as I loved my P38 but I changed because it was the only thing I have come across that drinks more than I do!! The 4.6ltr petrol engine was a killer. I changed jobs and the 20MPG doing 60 miles a day was unacceptable.
I used to tow a Bailey Pageant Champagne but have recently upgraded to a Pegasus S2 Bologna which is a twin axle and comes in with a MTPLM OF 1670KG. This weekend has been our first run out and have towed about 180 miles so far fully laiden.
The Freelander tows superbly. I was concerned and have been considering changing cars again and going back to a Range Rover but getting Diesel V8. My plans are now on hold...............Happy to stick with my Freelander for this season and probably next. I may even get another one instead of a Rangey. Have n o fear, the Freelander will be perfect for you. Don't however, get an old one, the new shape is light years ahead.
Hope this helps, although a bit late!!

Bought a brand new Freelander 2 HSE e ( stop / start ) in 2009 - yes it was expensive but it was what OH really wanted !!!
It has been fantastic as both an everyday vehicle that my wife takes to work and as a towing vehicle for the caravan. We go to France every year with van doing apporx. 1500 - 2000 miles every time, touch wood it has never missed a beat / let us down.
In terms of maintenance it has just gone through MOT no problems - its now done over 50 000 miles, has only needed new tyres when necessary and has just had new brake pads front & back - not bad for three years, as well as a yearly service.
I did buy an extra alloy wheel as a spare rather than the steel space saver it came with, would not tow van with a space saver on car just would'nt feel safe !
When time comes to change it will not be a difficult decision to make - unless LR come up with something special.
Hope this helps
Kevin
