Land Rover Sign of the times

I have read reports that Land Rover have gone on a 4 day week with some 200 staff being transferred to the Jaguar XF production line.

The decline in 4x4 sales has obviously hit them as they dont have other smaller models to help.

The 4x4 issue may be one point, but I feel that Landrover have hit the wrong market with the new Freelander.

The old TD4 at the basic level was cheaper and had a spare wheel. A basic Freelander 2 is a nearer

They claim that its because they have a lull in production of certain models at certain times of the year and the 200 that have moved over are some kind of mobile workforce that frequently make this kind of transition.

I do think though that some of it is down to lower interest in 4x4s. When I was buying my Freelander 2 in March the sales rep all but said they could not shift the Range Rover Sport any longer , people had gone of it big style.

Range Rovers and FL2 were selling like hot cakes and in fact if I'd have wanted to order a new FL2 there was a July delivery date at that time (i.e over 3 months wait).
