I had a 2000 TD5 and was glad to get rid of it as I could not bear to fund the repairs when it came out of warranty. Nice car with bags of room and not too bad on fuel. LR dealers are expensive but there are plenty of specialist places around. Problems that I had were cylinder head cracked, radiator burst, heated front sceen failed, leveliing hydraulics leaked and failed, ECU replaced, and numerous minor electrical problems. I was told that the earlier TDI300 was a better car! My current car is a Sorento which is 2004 and has been totally reliable with lower servicing than the LR5.

I have a Disco 300tdi it has almost 200,000 on the clock and is very reliable you should be able to pick one up for a song now but dont forget to lift the carpet in the boot as the tend to rust a bit but parts are dirt cheap new floor skin and three crossmembers

Hi i had a V plate TD5 auto for 5 years good tow car but never seemed to be in the correct gear and lacked power. Changed it for a LWB 3.2 shogun (could not afford disco 3) Brilliant, much Better than a the disco in all areas and with a power chip gives 190 app BHP. still a land rover fan would not sell my defender for anything.
