Leaking caravan roof

Hi Everyone

I'm looking for some advice on repairing a caravan roof that's letting water in.

As I haven't been able to see any obvious place where the water is getting in it'll probably be a case of treating the whole roof. The caravan is static and the site owner has suggested using Sylglas tape round the edges of the roof and over the seams. We'll need 45 metres for the job which would cost £500. We're also thinking of perhaps painting the whole roof in a silicone coating (another £160) in case there are any minor cracks in any of the roof panels.

Does anyone have any suggestions, hopefully for a less expensive way of dealing with the problem?

Many thanks

Jake

Hi Jake, I reseal about a dozen static roofs a year, I don't use Slyglas but flashband, which is a bitumen strip with an aluminum foil surface, you need to clean of any existing sealant, wire brush the seams and edges not forgetting around all the roof vent and flue's, lay the flashband over the seams gently warm the flashband with a hot air gun rubbing it down with a cloth as you go, be careful where you put your feet and knees while you are on the roof, best to use a piece of board which will straddle at least two of the roof struts and use this to stand on, the best thing in my opinion to coat the roof after you have applied the flashband is aluminum paint, silicone products tend to attack aluminum. The cost for this job depending on the size and condition of the caravan would be around
