Leaking cassete toilet update

Following earlier posts re leaks from cassete toilet (4 month old Swift) I reported that my dealer had raised the cassette by the fitting of plastic strips in the base of the cassete compartment. At the time we had not tried it out in anger but now pleased to report that-so far- all is well.

While I understand what has been done, I am not sure why. The casette toilet is a complete unit designed to fit into the waste compartment as is, so to my mind any additional strips indicate a substandard unit. I would have insisted on a new Thetford toilet and if the dealer will not oblige get Thetford to supply as they are offering the warranty. If not, you will always be using a van with a substandard piece of kit and the resale value will be affected.

Thanks for comment, I had assumed, from the number of posts on this subject, that it was quite a common problem and the fix is what Thetford had come up with.

Take your point though, think I will see what Thetford has to say.

Go for it. Under Sale of Goods Act you have the right to a new unit, as obviously the one you have is not as it should be. I accept repairs where a part is not feasible to be changed out, for example a cracked body panel, but as the toilet is only held in by a few screws, changing it should be a quick job and as your van is only 4 months old then also complain to Swift. They may pressure Thetford to comply.
