Leaky tap

The kitchen tap in our 2005 Bailey Pageant has been leaky since we got it- but only when you turn it on.

I did a bit of research, bought one of those ceramic inserts, and fitted it no problem. I thought it had fixed the issue, but if you move the direction of the tap (for example to lift or lower the glass cover, then to put it back over the sink later) the next time you use it, it leaks (but then doesn't on subsequent uses). It's only a few ml, but still.

I've taken the tap apart again and nipped the holding nut a bit tighter, which has helped a bit with the volume of water leaking but it hasn't stopped it completely and I daren't tighten any further.

Have I missed a trick here (such as needing a spot of grease/oil/glue on the rubber seal or something like that)?

I have a similar problem with a Bailey Pageant, and am told that I need a new 'bloc' [ about £15] but trouble is reaching it [ and getting a wrench on the large brass nut]which to date I have been unsuccessful with] Not too much of a job for a professional fitter so should not be too expensive if you cannot DIY. I am in my 70's with a bad back so I.m afraid I will have to hand it over to a dealer.
I will be interested to see how you get on...

Well I've just watched a video on youtube of a guy doing exactly the piece on a tap almost exactly the same.

He did just what I did, and did nothing special to form the seal.

Wonder whether my issue is that I bought the very cheapest I could get my hands on (£7.99 including postage from the bay of e).

Just thought I'd see if I was missing something before I confirmed the truth in the old adage "Buy cheap, buy twice".

Re the brass nut; My experience with my taps is because the tap is plastic the nut is not done up tightly. My solution was to cut a disc about cup top size out of 3/8" plywood with a slot the size of the nut cut in it. This can be gripped in the hand and is plenty strong enough to remove and refit the nut. I have two of these as taps I have removed have been fitted with different size nuts. This disc can be used blind behind a sink if your taps are like those I have needed to remove.

I just used an adjustable spanner!
