Plan to change the 12v 10w halogen lamps in the caravan for LED ones. We usually use the two at the end of the lounge as reading lights. Which is best for reading with, warm white or cool white. A 3 watt 300 lumens spotlight 3000K colour looks good as it equates to a higher wattage halogen than OEM fitted. Any experiences and suppliers would be welcome as there are literal hundreds of suppliers out there.

I always use warm white in the caravan. Pure White makes the place as attractive as a hospital sluice room.

When we used to need to change them over we always went for warm everywhere but for two front spots where we had cool for reading purposes. At home they're all warm.

Just changed the G4 and MR11 bulbs in the caravan to led and although the look is different, i'm getting used to the cool white led's. Also bought some blue led strips and although they look awesome lit up, i'm not sure where to permamtely fix them yet. B)

If anyone is interested, i have several left over, probably more than i'll ever need spare.
Pack of 4 G4 led bulbs free if you cover p+p £2
They are G4 led's, 1.5 watts to replace a standard 10 watt bulb, cool white, 110 lumens. I have 3 packs of 4 available.

He speaks a lot of sense.

Generally use warm white when replacing with LED's, but where you want more light to read, chop, prepare such as meals components use cool white. e.g. in the kitchen at home the ceiling LED's replacing the halogen that could boil water in a bowl on the floor we put warm white, under the cupboards over the worktops we have cool white in the working areas and blue in the non working areas to add to the ambience. In the downstairs bog we have cool white so us blokes can see where to aim without making a splash, in the vestibule warm white so its not so stark.

The caravan has all LED lighting, again it appears cool on the 'working' lights, warm on the ambience ones.

Thanks for the feedback. Mine are GU4/Mr11. I’ve bought two Osrams to see how they look. Equivalent to 20 w halogen. Gone for warm white.

Removing my spots they were GU4/MR11 which is 35mm diameter and depending on wattage the led equivalent could be 35-40 mm deep.

Mine being round had a fine wire circlip that held the lamp in place then just pull it out of the retainer block that the two short wires are in. The retainer block came forward too which aids removal.

If they get hot they won't be LED if they don't they will be. I'm afraid, as much of a caravan nerd as I am, I can't remember the 2013 VIP spec but I have a feeling they may well already be LED

Some L ED bulbs do get hot and come to pieces but that's a risk when you buy from China via ebay at less tan £1 each. Not all the batch of 6 failed either.

I think 300lm is a bit high for 3W. I was looking at mains candle bulbs just this afternoon and they were 250lm for 3.5W and I doubt any others will be much different. A quick Google suggests 3.5W is 260lm so I would guess 3W would be nearer maybe 220lm.

Yes a false figure off eBay. Eventually bought Agotd 3 watt with rated 250 lumens which make a really big improvement for reading.
