Don't forget that newspapers are in the business of selling papers, and this story would look far less sensational if they only quoted the caravans current market value. Instead what they do is add up all the money this couple reckon they've spent on the caravan, so that for example was 20K to purchase a few K's to kit it out, the cost of insurance, and sites fees since they bought the caravan.
Over the period of ownership they may well have spent 30K, so the headline is not lying, its just not looking at its market value.
By the same process if my 12 year old Espace was pinched my headline would read "Profs £57K car stolen!" which looks better than it's current value of about £1K.
