Light burning

Hello. We have an Avondale Mayfly (1998)
Last Wednesday I spotted smoke coming from a ceiling light. I dissconected the light and took the cover off. It is a 12 volt fluorescent light and the fitting inside was burnt. What causes this to happen and would it be safe to replace it or should I replace it with a normal or LED light.
Thanks

If the light fitting was an original item, then age is the cause.
Replace with new unit and all should be OK.

As above, I would replace the whole fitting.
The tubes actually produce light at a lowish temperature so it's probably the inverter that is on it's way out... for piece of mind get a new fitting.

Rog.
