Has anyone come across a full size lightweight awning? We have a porch awning but would really like something bigger but not a heavy canvas. Do lightweight full awnings exist and if so can you tell me where to get them please.

I have not seen a lightweight full awning myself,we use a Sunncamp ultima 390 which we have found quit roomy,we have had 6 adults sat around 2 tables comfortably for a meal,and there's plenty of room for the grandchildren to play on wet days.
The only down side to it is that in windy conditions its impossible to put up.

The "Royal Buckingham" is a large Porch Awning in lightweight material. There was one for sale on UKcampsite.co.uk a few weeks ago.
We posted a topic on this subject a few weeks ago and unfortunately nobody could help. We too want a full sized lightweight awning so that the sides are sealed but can't seem to source one. We use a sunncamp ultima 260 at the moment which we're pleased with but would like a full size for longer stays that isn't too heavy for one person to put up. We'd need a 975 cm size. Helpful suggestions were one of those canopies with added awning sides but this still wouldn't be sealed.

Thanks all - we did have a Ultima 390 which was ok size wise although as Claire and Rob mention it doesnt fix to the sides to keep the wind out.
The other thing which happened to us was that we had it erected when there were some quite strong winds and the ends of the fibreglass polies which slot through to the van actually damaged the van. There were rows of dents where the poles had been banging on the van. Also it leaked through the seams. The company where we bought it had had other complaints and actually advised us to return it to them.
We replaced this with a Romany Lightweight Awning which I like and is about the same size ie 390 but again the wind gusts in the sides. Oh for an extra few feet, sealed sides and lightweight.
Please manufacturers if you read this there is a market out there.....

We have the 260 version with vertical poles that hold the bolster to the sides of the van. Seems well designed and made.

Awning rail height are they suitable for 230cm and 245cm.
are the steel poles that fit alongside the caravan included.

We have just got our first caravan and we're very interested in the Kampa 260 or 390 but if we got one it would have to straddle a window and I'm concerned that if it wasn't flush against the side of the van, it would be just as draughty as any other porch awning (our windows seem to sit out a bit). Also, do you need to get the extra set of vertical rear poles to get the draught-free seal against the van? How would this work if it's up against a window?

Just bought the Kampa Rally 390 at the NEC show. Haven't used it yet but tried semi erecting it outside the house - seems quite promising, slightly deeper than the Sunncamp which we had been considering (250cm instead of 240) and we're fortunate in that it fits the Pageant 7 Bretagne without crossing any windows. Slid into the rail very easily, in fact I pushed it nearly all the way in just from the rail opening - it is a new van and a new awning though so everything still 'clean'.

Martin of Chester has given a pretty full account. The Kampa awning fits our S7 Pageant which I suppose is a standard height. The bolsters/cushions are fairly large and soft so should follow the curve of a window to some extent, though the seal wouldn't be as good as against a plain wall. The optional poles would help.
As long as it's not too windy I'm sure the awning could be put up single-handed.
The mudwall is inside so you could put stuff on it, and there's the usual PVC pelmet that runs along the caravan side. Quality of material and zips seems quite decent.
we had a pyramid tuscany awning which is pretty lightweight and practical we only changed when we changed caravan
For those interested , in my trauling various sites to find a suitable replacement for my sunncamp 260, which after several years has started to fray , have found that sunncamp now make two more 260 one is called ultima Plus which is has steel tubes to keep the awning close to the caravan, They also make the ultima Acrylic, much stonger material, this model is guaranteed 5 years, costs double the original 260.

I've also bought the 390 Kampa, saw it erected at Catterick Caravans alongside an Ultima 390 and the Kampa looks so much better made, although
We took the plunge and invested in an Isabella Capri lux with carbon-x poles which I have no difficulty erecting single handed on a 4.6m Lunar. The trick is to erect without the panels zipped in. With some awnings this will cause difficulty retro-zipping panels but the Isabella is accurately made and zipping-in afterwards is not a problem.
The Capri lux is the lightest full size Isabella but ours has easily handled some pretty heavy storms even in it's short life with us (2 seasons).

the other thing to be careful of when fitting a porch awning over a window is lateral movement of the material across the window causing permanent scratch marks on the plastic !
I replied to Claire and Rob on the 27 feb recommending the Khyam Motorhome Excelsior. Does the job perfectly and is spacious waterproof and windproof.

Out of the two the Kampa was the best buy, more expensive than the Ultima but very much a better awnings.
Before I start the Kampa we saw was the 390 model, one of the cross poles that keeps the awning in shape was bent, whether this was due to the extra lenght over the 260 cannot comment, never had this problem with are old 260.
The assembly of the Kampa compared with the ultima was a lot easier, with the 260 you have qty 3 support poles the top half are made of thicker carbon poles than the ultima, which you connect to the steel Lower part, which have adjustable feet, which means you can adjust the height to suit your van and the pitch that you are on something the ultima you cannot do.which means that you can get the rear of the awning to sit close to your van , you also have a thick pad which fits snug to the vanside.
We have bought the Kampa 260 colour blue for the same price that Norwich was selling the 2009 ultma, from a different supplier.
This supplier has qty 1 left(As yesterday when we collected ours)
but colour Red, if you are at all interested ask the moderator to supply me with your email and I will send you the email address of this company.
Assembled ours this afternoon on our caravan at home ,We have a Bailey Ranger 460/4 and its fits between the front side window and the toilet external locker. looks great.

As yet we do not have the steel poles, that fit behind the pads against the side of the caravan.

Thanks for your helpful update. I think we're going to go for the Kampa Rally 390 in blue. The Kampa easy tread groundsheet seems to get a good review too, so we're going to get it and the extra pole set as well... No-one in Northern Ireland seems to stock Kampa awnings yet, so I think we'll get the rear poles to err on the safe side, rather than have to pay carriage twice!
We have a Sterling Europa 495 so we don't have quite enough room for a 260 with the spacing between our windows - and I would prefer not to have it straddle a window, as Pete pointed out this could lead to getting the windows scratched - but hopefully the 390 will just fit between the front side window and the end of the van!! We'll probably lose the use of the external access to the storage area under the fixed bed, but as long as we remember to take our chairs out before we put the awning up, I'm sure we'll survive
