Lily’s 1st week report.
Car travel…. Good once she has settled down ( we bought a bigger car travel seat for her)
Socialising:
With people very good, with other dogs a work in progress.
Seeing her own reflection…. Barks but not too much.
Chewing…. A work in progress.
Jeanette…. Definitely a work in progress 🤣🤣🤣
Toilet trained and only goes outside … woke me up at 4.18 am so I took her into the garden for a wee👍

Overall she has settled amazingly well and already has fan club in the village and when we are out we get stopped quite a lot and we encourage everyone to engage with her which she loves.
Big test next Friday when we take her away for a week in the caravan👍

We were adopted by a "rescue" Yorkshire terrier called Milo and who is 9 months old. His previous owner was out all day and the puppy was locked up in her front room as did all his business there. At present we are trying to break that habit with some success. Otherwise he is as good as gold and the first night he jumped up onto our bed and snuggled down for the night and stayed there all night.

We were quite apprehensive with the cat who is three times larger than him as it took us several nights for the cat and our other youngster Rory to adapt to one another. We were very pleasantly surprised when the cat did not even bat an eyelid and the two of them get on well together.

We are away to a cottage next month so that will be another trial and error period for us, but hopefully by then he is fully house trained. We are taking so blankets with us to cover the furniture in the cottage even though highly unlikely any of them will do anything on the furniture or bed.

Sainsburys in Ferndown this lunchtime I saw the worst driving ( a generous description at best!) I have ever seen.
One lady ( elderly) took 17 attempts to park her car and nearly ran three people over in the process.

Lily is going great guns by the way👍

Back home now after a nice week away, albeit with 2 days written off due to the weather.

No dramas getting home.

Lily has adapted well and we've thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Puppy training starts soon too so that will benefit us all ( the wife says my recall needs working on.....still...it's early days yet, only been married 22 years🤣🤣🤣).

Next trip away is 2 weeks at a site in Cornwall at the end of July.

One of my granddaughters has one Winston. We have looked after him once and he is good. But next month we have him for 3 nights. We have warned that he will not be allowed on the bed so they have some training to do. He is now around 1 year old.

Friends in Australia got one who is about the same age. But they grow them big there.

How will Lily grow?

Fab dogs!!!

We don't expect Lily to be a big dog ( probably spaniel size at most).

Taking our 10 old pup for training on Monday. He is quite good with recall, but tends to yap at everyone and other dogs on initial contact.. His yap is high pitched being a Yorkie.

She's going for a haircut tomorrow afternoon, I'd like to do it myself but my wife thinks Noodle will lose her ears!!!!
It would be worth learning to clip her yourself. I used to clip my spaniels and my last terrier. £40 for a decent set of clippers vs £40-£50 every 2 or 3 months at the parlor, plus I could quickly trim their paws once a month to reduce the amount of mud they brought in. I'm not going to tell you that my grooming skills were on par with a professional trim, but not once did any of my dogs complain about their hair cuts. 😉

It's very difficult to cut skin with electric clippers (scissors are a different story).

I use a set of WAHL pet clippers comes with the main unit, plus a small battery powered one, and various size cutting heads, scissors etc. Mains operated with lots of umph, even gets used on moi at times.

This morning Lily barked at a helicopter and flushed a couple of young pheasants out of a bush🤣🤣🤣… feeling very proud of herself 👍

Got out at 7.15 am….
Now set up on site and just posted a report on the General section.
More tales of ineptitude will almost inevitably follow 🤣🤣🤣
