Local Taxes in Germany

Have any other people been charged local taxes on top of site fees in Germany?

We were charged 27.96 euros in southern Germany for four nights and none in northern Germany.

Never known them to be that high, is usually 30/40 cents per person per night. This may seem a stupid question but were on metered electric? What site was it?

Certain seaside resorts and spas, so-called "Kurorte", levy an additional charge per person per night. All visitors that stay overnight, whether on campsites or hotels, have to pay this charge.
 
ps: it is usually in the order of about 2 Euros per person per night, but some place may be more expensive.
 
We were in Germany last two weeks. Tourist Tax as they call it here in Austria is up to 3-4 euros a night for two persons, some sites are more it depends what council reigns.

In Germany we paid nothing near Bitberg, 1.10 euros per person per night and in Bertchesgaden we paid 1.10 euros per couple per night. It just varies which area you are stopping in.

Another thing new this year in Germany all ACSI card sites are using meters for Electricity and you are charged over using so much per night.

The price of WiFi varies a lot too Free unlimited access at Bitburg. 4.euros for 24 hours in Black Forest, not too bad, and 6 euros an hour at Bertchesgaden, too much I think.
 
Rip off Germany. You are EU Citizens the same as me. According to Germany we have one Europe. So why are we tourits in our own land. Or do toursit Germans from 10 miles up the road get charged extra tax?

Just spent 2 weeks in Germany using ACSI card and were never charged anything for electricity.

Most sites were quiet and didn't even note which pitch we went on to, so they couldn't keep track of what we used or which socket we were using.

Euro It is everyone who pays this tax not German, Austrian or who ever. It has been so in Austria for some years.

It certainly isn't rip off Germany and Austria even with the pound problem food, fuel and clothes are much cheaper than in the UK. Diesel 89 - 91 cents a litre here in Southern Austria .

Pete I expect it depends which site you go on, but it does say in the ACSI book that you may be charged for electricity over a certain amount.

Sorry missed out words not just the Brits and other tourists but all tourists visiting, Caravan sites, Hotels etc., inc Austrians and Germans in Austria and Germany.

Well I got it correct in part.

Yes I have come across this. In poor countries I can accept that they take a little extra from tourists.

In European and Western countries bring your tourist Euro or Pound to an area is a benefit to all in that erea. Fleecing the tourists for a little extra is a complete rip off!
 
Having just returned home I can confirm Dianne's statement that the locals also have to pay this tax, where applicable. Anyone who doesn't want to pay will just have to stopover in a town which is not a spa. (Most spas in Germany begin with 'Bad'-something-or-other, like Bad Reichenhall, Bad Oeynhausen, etc.)

The Electric was about 4 euros.

I was told by Eurocamp it was a Green tax.

It was Bad Leibenzell where we paid the expensive taxes.
