Not sure if my usage can be tracked, the boss is out, can she see what I am doing on the pc.

If so can I delete the pages I use of the machine???

If you go to history and delete todays hstory that's the easy first place for the boss to look.

If you go into internet settings there are also box's to tick that will delete where you have been when you close down.

If you are on a server that may not work though, may be Steve can tell on that one ;-)

If your boss is tracking your usage then it will either be via a client on your PC or via a gateway. Either way, this site is not on any restricted list so they would have to be a bad boss to bother.

On our works PC's we have a firewall that logs everything you see. Not that bothered by it and never had cause to disable it

If you are using your pc at work chances are you are going via a server and the IT administrator can view every site that you look for the last 45 days, usually they would have to pick you out and search by user. Depends if they do a random check.

I use remote access to my computer, I can see all the emails that come in and access files and send as though I'm still working.

No idea how it all works as one of my daughters people set it all up and looks after it.

She works for a UK software company now and they use remote access for their own computer systems and to their home office computers and clients computers when granted access to up date the systems.

I get email from her home PC in Yorkshire when she is working in Paris or Belfast or somwhere strange, she has power back-up pack and had to change to BT from NTL for line reliability!

What I can't work out is why clients still want her and her colleagues to go to them.

The cost per day plus expenses is scandalous, clients get billed for calls to software people in India yet they communicate via VOIP.

Erasing the history on your PC will make no difference, if they were checking they would look at your server/ firewall.

As someone else said they would normally only trace something that had been flagged up by the firewall because it is a banned site or because that site is seeing unusual or high usage (as a whole or by an individual - they can see this if they want to).

Really popular sites like Yootube and eBay might get flagged up because they could indicate non work related usage.

BBC is unlikely to be flagged becuse it is seen as news/educational and I would be surprised if PC got flagged except possibly as a forum.

I have never worked doing this in an IT department but I worked with lots of IT departments that did it in my previous BT employment.

My wife works for an education dept. Computers get used by a variety of people and they tend to look at the history just to get an idea of what is going on at times. If they see to much activity in the wrong places the IT people get called to look closer.
