Hi, we are looking to purchase our first caravan within the next 6 months or so.

We have already ordered a suitable towcare Volvo XC60 and we have mainly settled on a layout like the Sprite Major 4SB or the Bailey Phoenix 640 (mid fixed bed rear washroom)

I am wondering which dealers we should visit to take a look around and research further? We already went to the caravan show in Birmingham so we have looked at the basic layouts available and we have rented motorhomes in the past.

We are open to getting a relatively new but used caravan or a new one - not decided yet but quite like the idea of getting a nearly new one that is already kitted out with a few items.

It looks like Spinney, North Western Caravans, Leisure Sales are the ones in our vicinity - am I allowed to ask for general recommendations or if not at least are there others in the Cheshire / North West to check out?

Once you have chosen your layout and spec. Purchase from a dealer as local as possible and one that has a decent reputation.

Experience of others shows that people are having to travel large distances for warrantee work or servicing.

All the dealers I mentioned are within 30 minutes. How do I know whether they have a decent reputation as a new purchaser?

There is also Hale road caravans in Widnes that seems to only deal in used models.

Leisure Sales in Sandbach have a very good reputation,
A&E in Northwich are excellent workshops but I don't believe they sell caravans (worth knowing if you are buying pre owned)..

Be careful in Shropshire - not just the potholes!!
Take your time and scrutinise every mm of any prospective purchases
You can PM the OP if you have further information which would not be appropriate on open forum.

I second your comments on Shropshire potholes I believe they cost me an axle. Do I hold a grudge…….☹️

Look online at the reviews for each dealership. In particular check out reviews for after care and servicing because this is where the difficulty can arise. You may find glowing reports of Salesbut less glowing reports on After sales. I have used a different branch of Spinney ( not Cheshire) with experiences that were mixed.

As you are looking for new or nearly new I’d prefer a local main agent dealer. However that does not mean you should dismiss a local freelance dealer specialising in used models. Just check them out on the forums, trip advisor type sites.
And pay at least £100 on a credit card or finance loan in case you need to invoke a section 75 claim.
