We are thinking of looking at some of these plates & dishes for the van

I seem to remember them getting some good reviews a few years back and wondered if anyone is still using them, if so have you managed to break any and are they worth the price that you paid for them, just wondering if they be available at the nec show next month.

Hi Sproket

We have not used Luminarc but have been very pleased with the Corelle range.lightweight, microwaveable, and although they claim to be chip resistant and unlikely to break we had a plate escape from a top cupboard and smash on the floor when travelling, Seemed like hundreds of small shards of glass. There is usually a stand at NEC under the name 'world kitchen' and you can buy individual items or sets lots of different patterns to choose from. We stay with plain white as easiest and cheapest to match, may be worth a look if you are going to the NEC show?

SWMBO has just changed our old stained melamine for Corelle and I have to say it is light in weight and nice to use, although the mugs are a bit heavy and thick relative to the plates etc.
If you choose carefully you can mix and match between the ranges and still maintain some colour coordination which is, it seems, essential.

We've got Corelle and I thought they might break as the plates and bowls are very thin but had them 4years now and been fine. Can pop them in oven to warm them ,microwaveable and the cups clean up well although as Ray says they are quite thick

The cups are not made of the same 'pyrex' material as the plates, bowls etc. I believe the cups are normal china.

We have got Corelle dishes and plates in the caravan, we have had them since we started caravanning, (now how long is that? Ah yes -- 38 years!) I kid you not. In that time they have travelled thousands of miles, and been used thousands of time. and we have had 1 fatality in that time, 1 dish fell out of a cupboard and smashed on the hob. Our pottery has a gold bead around the rims, when it got broke we tried to get it replaced but they had stopped selling them in this country, (which lasted for many years up till quite recently) We looked round many car boots for a replacement but in all the searches we have only come across 1 dish (it had a grey bead, but we bought it and it has been in the set many years now.) We still look but never have found a gold one! They started reselling them in this country a year or two back but don't make the same patterns now. The plates and dishes are still perfect no chips stains or anything. They must have been the best investment we ever made. we still don't see them on car boots Probably I suspect 'cos they last so long.

If you are going to France, Arques where Luminarc glass etc is made is just SE of St Omer about 25 miles south(ish) of Calais.. They have a factory shop, and if you can find out when they have a HUGE sale in tents in the factory grounds every year. Not only is the stuff incredibly cheap but you'll also find out who else they make glass for - like Coca Cola, Macey's, Ikea, etc etc.

Also have Corelle in the van and at home. Got the latest lot from Argos. The mugs are stoneware but this isn't a problem.
I think it is great . 100% better than melamine.

I think we tried melamine about three to four times when we first got the van, :eek:hmy: :eek:hmy: then it went in the bin  Since then we have always used normal cups / mugs & plates, but I didn't know Argos sold it, thanks

Not sure what your storage is like but we found the square shaped plates a problem to fit in the racks on the Argente. You might have more room though so cannot be sure as no problem with the Lunar.
