Coming back from the Lakes today southbound on the M6…….what absolute mayhem. Miles and miles of traffic cones, two lanes , slow to stop traffic and not a sign of any work actually happening. Not a glimmer of a high vis vest, excavator or anything. Then to top it all we tried to stop at three service stations for a comfort break but couldn’t park anywhere due to suitable spaces all jammed up with lorries. HS2??? I can think of better things to invest in.

Cones and no one doing anything seems to be quite common. No wonder work that would normally take a week to complete takes 4 weeks.

Probably all to do with Health and Safety, Work plan, The What if this happens Plan, The, No toilets, on site available plan.
Where would we be without Planning, Then of course the 5 workers that were to do the job, had worked so many hours the previous month they were due time off.

HS2 north of Birmingham has been put on hold for 2 years - some work that's already started will be finished but much of it will be left in abeyance for the 2 years.

It's worth looking at the alternatives for those travelling between the M6 and M1 - you could use the M6 Toll, at a cost - outside peak hours you could use M42 and A5 (but A5 has roadworks) - the A50 is a reasonable alternative - further north the A66 between A1(M) and M6.

For those travelling between the M6 and M5, it's a case of "tough".

Not been that far South this year, only as far as Chester. Not had your problems, but it might be worthwhile checking to see if their are problems before you travel and pick out alternative routes where possible. Our sat nav does warn about hold ups and suggest alternatives which can help.
