Mains & 12 volt coolboxes

Hi everyone

Thinking of getting one of these coolboxes, and just wondered if anyone had one and if they are worth the money. As they seem to start at around £70 to £200 depending on size.

We have one that we bought from Riverside leisure. You need to check to see how much it cools down below the ambient temperature. Ours is quite effective and we use it in the awning for cool drinks etc. It is similar to this one which cools down to 18 degrees C below the ambient temperature however ours also works on mains.

Aldi have these in from time to time as Sunday/Thursday specials. We bought one a couple of years ago (for around £35 I think). Continues to work well.

It all dependes upon what you wish to carry and where you are going to be travelling. If it is just to keep a few beers cool and the pint of milk till you arrive on site then really the cheapest will probably do. However if you really want to carry fresh food even in the south of France then may I suggest a look at

I use these type of fridges for my work and over the years have found them to be the best by far. As long as the freezer is down to around -18 before I get on the Newcastle ferry products inside are still at -16 the following morning when I leave. As with all fridges a little fresh air going over them improves performance. I know they are expensive but the 2 I have are on their 3rd year and still give excellent srevice every week of the year.

We had one, but a few spillages ended up rotting the seals - and the smell it gave off wasnt good. Think we got it from halfords.
Clean thoroughly would be obvious advice. Neil

The cheaper boxes do not have a thermostat. If you leave them running overnight in the awning or outside, they can easily get doen to freezing or below and ruin salads etc. I've had a tine of Coke freeze and split.

These will be available at Lidl for £39-99 from May 7th as one of their "specials". Bought one last year and found it very satisfactory.
