Mains Water Connections

Could anybody advise me on the best/better method of mains water connection. Is it best to go into the side of the aquarol using the float valve and then pump the water into the van as normal, or connect the mains water supply pipe straight into the van.

the method were you pump water direct to the van (no aquaroll)as has been highlighted on here numerous times,is that the direct pressure can cause problems with possible leakage and damage if water pressure is to great.i use the aquaroll method,much safer.

Do not connect the mains water direct to your van. A presure reducer is needed for that.

I have found the best way is to use the aquaroll adaptor as this guarentee's no damage ot flooding from the mais pressure

I have been using the Whale aquasource that Jim mentioned for years now and have had no problems at all. I think the comments that get made about pressure problems relate to a faulty batch during early production runs of this product. Mine has been trouble free.
 
Graham I tried the direct input but found that the pressure reduced so much that one could not have a decent shower. No problem with the Aquaroll one though. Using it at present with no problems.
 
We spent time on a 'seasonal' site some time ago when we had a huge Hobby caravan (not towable in this country without a 3.5 tonne truck!). It had a very large onboard water tank that was plug direct into the mains supply.

However, many caravans on site had the 'pump' system and each was rigged up with a 'toilet cistern' on the outside. What I am getting at is - during the seasonal period there was a large build-up of algae (as seen inside your home toilet system) that looked dreadful. I doubt that it was suitable for drinking and could have been a health risk.

I would suggest that, if you want to plug into the mains water, you go down to your local 'van accessory shop and purchase a long piece of plastic tubing which is made for this purpose. Never use an ordinary garden hose pipe.

No we don't have an onboard tank. I assume this overcomes the problem of low pressure. If I had to get another tank, I think I would prefer a bigger hot water tank if such a beast exists.

That does indeed answer the question, the Aquasource is best used with an onboard tank and I for one would not advocate trying to fit an additional tank in order to facilitate the use of such a device.

This would proberbly cause more problems than it was worth, in your case the aquaroll with cistern type ball valve is he answer.

One downside of the Aquasource connection is that if you use the van in winter it is more prone to freezing than a full aquaroll, something I experienced this weekend.

Regarding the waste you will need a length of waste pipe 3 to 4 metres long. The waste drain may be to the off side of your van or at the rear of the van. Some caravans have the drain pipes on the off side some at the rear. On one occasion where the drain was at the side I found my pipe wasn't long enough.

As for the water how often do you intend to use superpitches.

Either way its nice to have the water on your pitch even if filling the aquaroll.

Thanks for that,I will very rarely use a serviced pitch,it was only after booking I noticed, didnt realise how much the adaptor was so will prob leave that. I could still connect the waste though couldnt I ? Thats one less job for him !!!!

Are you sure you know what you are doing going on a serviced pitch, you might get spoiled not having to lug water about. Where are you off to? I'm at Holgates for the week starting tonight, can't wait. F.I.L respoding well at moment, he was the 60 a day man I refered to in the smoking post. coincidence I think not.

Have'nt got a clue what we are doing ! ha ha have you not noticed that yet !! we are off to stanix park, it looks very commercial,not sure what its going to be like but it seemed to be the best place for the little uns if the weather was not so good,thay are both recovering from chest infections !!!

Glad f-i-l is responding,wish him well for me,interestingly read the topic on breast cancer and the drugs, mother in law was put straight on Herceptin no problems.!
