Marker boards

Marker boards are required in Spain if the total length of the outfit car plus caravan exceeds 12m. Further the design should be yellow with red boarder and no stripes etc. E marked.

When this 'rule' was dusted off a few years ago - coincidentally when funding for the Guarda Civil was cut - there were a spate of stop and fine often for more than 100 euros. Since then I have not heard any reported instances - only the same principle being applied to towing cars behind motor homes using an A frame.

You can read details on Caravan Club website which also has links to UK suppliers. To the letter of the law plates have to be mounted on aluminium and not self adhesive but I think you would be unlucky to fall foul of this unless there were other problems with the outfit.
