mazda towing advice

I am seriously considering buying a mazda 2.0litre vehicle for towing my Fleetwood Colchester 150-2eb, 2 birth, Vin plate weight 881kg. Funds would allow perhaps an 04 or 05 model. Question 1;- deisel or petrol.

2:- hatchback or estate.

3:- manual or autamatic.

Would welcome any input from members who have experience of towing with the above vehicles.

Our old caravan was a Fleetwood Countryside 500EK - 4 berth. (1999 model). We had a Mazda 6 TS2 Diesel estate 2.0L. I absolutely loved it. It was comfy, easy to drive, good towing vehicle, had loads of boot space and I would certainly have one again. I believe it could pull up to 1500kg on its kerbweight but you would have to check. We would still have that car if Jason hadn't changed job to one without a company car. Definitely go for a diesel though.
