Measure Awning size

Hi everyone. I would like to ask about how to measure for an awning. The caravan that I need it for is a Compass 340-2, a 1991 model. The van is only 11 foot 6 inches long. The awning thats with it is an Isabella and its marked as 725cm.

I am after a lightweight one but I cannot really work out what I need to measure to find out what I need to buy. I know its the length and hight. the thing is where to get these measurments from. So I am hopeing someone will give me a helping hand so to speak. Thanks in advance.

Hi Raccoon

The best way to measure for an awning is to use a piece of cord, old washing line or garden string will do.

On level ground take the end of the cord and place it on the ground at the front of your caravan.

the cord is then taken through the awning rail channel to ground level at the back of your caravan. Measure the cord in cm and the awning size should be the nearest 25cm UP from the measurement. i.e. if the rail measurment is 710cm it would go up to 725cm.

Alternatively ring Towsure with the make, model and year of your caravan and they will quote a size from their guide.

Thankyou for your reply Parksy. Its easy when you know how. cheers

Please be very careful if using string which has a tendency to stretch

Once tried it on our van, just to check if the size quoted on a website was accurate and got a shorter vreading but actual size was different to the string size.Could have been a costly mistake if used the string measurement to buy an awning.

Please use something you cannot stretch as even slight give over 9 or 10 metres can give quite a difference
