We have now returned after a five week tour of southern Germany and the Czech Republic. Many thanks Lutz, for the advice about a boat trips from Rudesheim. We had an enjoyable day travelling on the steamer to Koblenz (4 hours) and as you advised, returned by train (about 1 hour). Aparently the return journey, upstream, by boat takes about six hours. Anyway we had time to have a meal and look around Koblenz, which was quite interesting. My wife had visited the city as a teenager and had told me about "the spitting boy" so it was good for her to revive old memories!

Glad you you enjoyed your stay. We were in Poland at the time you were here, otherwise you could have dropped by for a cup of tea.
