Not suggesting anyone should go, but you may be interested in how the industry supports standards.

I am a time served Bricklayer, I also taught the trade for many years and headed up a construction department. So I was also involved with regional and national competitions. This is a link to one such competition which will be held shortly.

The super trowel competition is also now international.

I’m happy for any volunteers to regrout my riven random paving. Done about 25%so far and it’s not amongst my favourite jobs

I used this on my garden path( concrete moulded flags) 4 years ago as the cement between the flags grew moss and finally gave up - mixed results. From memory there is a minimum width between the flags which it can be applied, also the shape of gap is important and it will attract dirt in its top surface, which jet washing won't remove , so this year it will either be removed and fresh applied or back to coloured sand , cement and weed killer mix.

My patio was laid about 10 years ago by the previous owner and for the last two years the mortar grout has been progressively deteriorating with moss etc. It consists of riven pavers that are rectangular or square but laid in a random manner with variable gaps. Some as tight as 3-4mm others around 15-20mm. I looked at all manner of grouting types, some of which required professional kit. But given mixed reviews of the ones like Sika I decided on a mortar grout, which I’ve used in our previous house and our daughters too. It’s certainly not as easy as brush in ones, but it does stand the test of time. I normally clean using a professional grade cleaner, no jet washing. But this time I’m going to try a cleaner that you just spray on and leave. It’s called Spray and Leave by Spear and Jackon , so it’s worth a try.

I use a Point Master gun too. Very good, but not my idea of “ fun to use”.

The trick with the jointing compound is to not rely on just brushing.

Brush to fill
Tool to compress,
Brush to top up
Repeat if necessary.

Not as strong as sand and cement. But has flexibility.
