Any ideas on how to remove mildew from flyscreens ?

I have read the suggestions for curtains but obviously we can't take the flyscreens off !

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi,

We have just had the same problem.

I used a steam cleaner being very careful to keep the nozzle well away from the surface I went over the mesh and then used a spontex sponge very gentley going over the surface to brush away the mildew.

It worked very well.

Good luck

No not a silly question Lynne, They are fitted below Skylight, and on windows, like nets. Not all vans are fitted with them on windows, but most have them on skylights. Hope this helps,

Hi Rioja,we had some mildew on our flyscreen on skylight,

what I used was mould and mildew remover, quite strong because it has bleach in it. I put a small drop on a cloth and just wiped over carefully, I was unsure using it as I thought it might ruin screens, but if you use just a tiny drop, it worked for me ok. Liz

We had the same problem and ours were quite bad. I used Mould and Mildew Remover and it worked fine. Basically I opened all the window and pulled down the fly screen and the blackout.

I then sprayed (liberally!) all over the marks and then gently rubbed with a cloth. Having the blackout blinds down meant both sides get done at the same time as you use them as a support and it also stops your furniture getting covered. Make sure you wipe any excess off.

I then just left them to dry and they are now spotless and havent had any problems.

It is not that difficult for a competent DIYer to remove the whole blind assembly, dismantle it, release the spring tension on the roller and extract the netting. It is easier to do than put into writing! I've washed all mine and ironed some that had creased. - John
