I have twice posted on the Chit Chat section to respond to the post by Colin Bridgend and both times they have failed to appear I can only assume that the forum is sensoring friendly posts as nothing in them was remotely controversial

Hi Tone, I thought that you'd emigrated!

Please be assured that your posts are not being deliberately censored in any way but recently activated forum software might have caused a problem.
I'll look into it tomorrow and try to sort out the problem for you.

Hi Parksy
I've wondered why some Mods have removed entire threads without any explanation or perhaps just making the thread a locked one?
I realise some of the posts may get close to the mark but total erasure of all the good bits by the majority of members does seem a bit of an overkill .
That's got that off my chest ; thanks

Before the new forum engine was in place it was very time consuming and difficult to remove bits of topics which went against the rules, for whatever reason.
As the Mods are not paid to spend hours of their own time sifting through the old edit facility, it was quicker and easier to delete the topic
With the new forum engine it is much easier to edit where necessary, but then sometimes it makes the topic totally unreadable in any sense, so it goes.

The removal of posts can also be done by Haymarket at any time.

Usually there is ample warning given by the Mods that a topic is heading for the bin or being locked, aand if it continues to degenerate it is removed without further explanations.
If a user happens to miss the warning posts then it can appear that no warning was given, but it has.

Hi Dustydog
There are a number of reasons why this could happen.
On the old forum it was possible to find the post (with some difficulty) to be removed and delete it leaving the remaining posts intact but unfortunately, as we've found to our cost sometimes

if we try to delete just one post with this new website quite often all of the following posts disappear.
Mods were at first unaware that this could happen so apologies to those affected during the trial and error.
Another possible reason might be because the topic was contentious or had aroused a bit of ill feeling. If just one post was edited it would be obvious to all that a mod had intervened because as mentioned earlier we can't make the post disappear without risking losing others posts. We are then left with the members username and the rather bleak message in red Post Deleted (Joe Soap- Moderator)
Nobody enjoys seeing their post deleted and of course a red text moderator input can be annoying so this leads to yet more public forum bust ups with the hapless moderator. If moderators post explanations as to why posts or entire topics are edited or deleted quite often the member who submitted the deleted item decides to argue even though warning had been given by mods, and other forum members have been known to become involved and take sides which damages the reputation of the forum and by extension caravanners in general.
Every time up to yet that I've locked a thread so far there have been arguments and recriminations and instead of a forum topic about caravans we end up with forum topics about how useless, bloody minded, unfair or rude those nasty mods are

It is very easy to become lost in the moment when typing away furiously on forums, we can become locked in mortal combat with an anonymous fellow keyboard warrior who we may begin to regard as a deadly enemy. It's war without tears as the old song goes but we seldom stop to consider what overall impression is being created.
Sometimes it might be better to mods to *** things in the bud and sacrifice a topic to generally keep things reasonably calm on a forum such as this.
Moderators try to avoid deleting too much of the very good genuine user generated copy and fortunately on this forum we can act quickly if necessary but by and large things tick over quite nicely in general.

Hi Ray
The most recent post that I have from you was at 7:07pm earlier this evening which reads:

For some reason i can't reply to the last post?
Anyway obviously 2000kg is heavier than the cars kerb weight, thats the braked trailer limit, not the caravan limit.
Common sense has to prevail.
The xtrail will tow 2200kg, and only has a kerb of 1720kg, for my model.

I am still a manuel man, but the X3 is the first auto that i have been impressed by, on paper, having not driven it.
When i checked out the Q5, it only had a nose weight limit of 80kg, not much use for a 4x4.
I can't say what the tiguan is, so i advise you check, probably 80kg?

There is nothing else in the archive apart from your post at 10:02am this morning.
