Mitsubishi shogun sport warrior 2.5 turbo

hi everyone, thinking of purchasing one of these to tow my sterlng europa 620 twin axle ( laden 1615). or even a 2.5 non turbo, what do you good people think of the combination ??. any advise would be truly appreciated..
 
The first thing you need to know is can the car legally tow the caravan, that is specified in the tow limit for the car. The second thing is to consider the rule of thumb that the towing weight of the caravan does not exceed 85% of the kerb weight of the car; this is a guidance but it helps to ensure a stable tug for the van and is pretty sound advice especially if you are new to towing (like I am).
Cars and caravans vary quite a lot within a single range but you have provided a laden weight of 1615 kg, I assume that this is the Maximum Technically Permissible Laden Mass (MTPLM) or the maximum weight that the caravan is allowed to be as dictated by the manufacturer.

A quick look at any of the various online checkers for such things tells me that across the range of Shogun sports the maximum towing weight is set at 2800kgs so you are fine there but the kerb weight does vary from 1915-1865 which means that at the lower end your 85% ration is 1585kg which is less than the MTPLM. This is only advisory.

I don’t think that it makes much difference between petrol and diesel or manual and automatic with the shogun sport to be honest and I think that most folk on here who own shoguns and shogun sports are pretty happy with them as a tug even if they are a bit thirsty.
 
Shogun Sport is a good car, although not as accomplished off road as the Pajero, but as a tow car it is fine and very roomy. I'd tend to go for the diesel given its meaty torque, and it will be less thirsty, but this can be somewhat relative anyway! Weightwise even the lower kerb weight still gives an 86% match against your planned caravan. As its virtually impossible to weigh the caravan and its contents with such a degree of accuracy the Shogun Sport should be a match for your caravan. After all the caravan makers give a margin of 5% on caravan weight due to manufacturing tolerances and weather conditions (humidity). Sensible loading of car and caravan iaw CC and C&CC guidelines is important and will more than compensate for any slight variations around the 85% guidelines.
 
In my opinion if you're going to go down the Mitsubishi route you would be better off with a 2.8 turbo Shogun/Pajero than the sport. It's certainly a more comfortable ride and roomier. Any of the vehicles we've mentioned on your other thread would be perfectly suitable too.

Ummmm........... had the Sport previous to the Shogun I now have, sorry Martin have to disagree on the comfort 🙁

Found the Sport much better UNTIL I purchased a pair of padded seat covers from Halfords, got them for the journey up to the woosie fest in Pickering, glad I did.........................I can now also see over the bonnet 🙂 :cheer:
 
I remember you saying about the padded seat covers. My problem when I tried the sport was getting legs comfortable. I wonder if the seats changed much between the 2.8 and 3.2 because we used to do long journeys with not a hint of discomfort. Either that or I've just got more padding 🙂
