Absolutely! The next time you are on a grass pitch a long way from gravel/tarmac etc and it turns into a quagmire after a day of heavy rain - well, you just hitch up, turn the knob to 4-wheel drive and away you go (but don't forget to turn it back to auto when you reach the road).

Apart from the above, it is very comfortable, well equipped, reliable and hardly notices the van on the back. My Aug '06 Columbia has 18,700 on the clock, 9,900 of which was towing our Senator Oklhoma (1499kg MTPLM).

Enjoy!

The x is a good tow car but dont expect mondeo road holding or performace/economy.

The benifits are a 100kg nose weight limit, four wheel drive on demand, a 2000kg (for my 04) tow limit.

The down side, the dealers are mainly rubbish.

My XT is fab. 54 plate 2.2DCi T-Spec, 65000 miles. Tows like it ain't towing (if you get my drift). Got me off a few slippy pitches. As for my dealer, couldn't be more helpful and even got 3 years free servicing and a tow bar thrown in and it works, I've just had a major one for

thanks for your replies folks just covered 300 miles mixed roads and speeds averaging 40 mpg (solo) and more than happy with the car.

mondeo was great car (had 06 plate titanium 2.00TDCi) changed it 4 a 55 plate 2,2 diesel xtrail sport 27,000 mls when i got it great motor 37 mpg in town 46 mpg on long runs but down side 25/27 towing swift charisma 555 (1460kg ) fully loaded. only thing i will say about xtrail very very bad for turbos, had one go at 13,000 (paper work as proof from last owner before me ) and replacement one went at 28.650mls so am now on the 3rd one .Local Nissan garage told me that they are replacing some 9 months after the warrenty is up FREE of charge as this is a bad trait of the vehicle (tip if your nissan starts to whistle when you rev it then it could be your turbo that is faulty (
