Mondeo towing ability- advice/help needed!!

We are concidering purchasing a brand new mondeo edge 2.0lt diesel 140bhp.We currently tow with an xtrail 2.2 sport.Our caravan is a abbey vogue 415 gts 2006 with a mptlm of 1458kg.We have been advised that the mondeo is a 93% match which is less than the xtrail at 95%.Both of us are experienced 'vannies.

Is the mondeo's towing capabilities up to the job of towing our van with the ease and comfort that we have experienced with the xtrail?? We would be grateful of any help and advice please.

I tow a Coachman Amara 520/4 mptlm of 1500kg apx with the same spec Mondeo as yours and find this to be superb outfit. Mondeo performs well in all aspects.

Hi, I had a previous Mondeo diesel estate with a 1400kg MTPLM van, and it had no problems, it was stable and economical. We did probably load the car up rather than load the van so in fact it was towing less than the full 1400kg, but friends of ours tended to load tha van to max and when I travekekd with them there was no discernable diffrence in either outfit.

I have a 05 plate 155bhp Mondeo diesel estate pulling a Swift Challenger 480, which is 1407kgs MPTLM, and it is excellent. Plenty of power and completely stable. I haven't yet looked at the new Mondeo, but it has had some excellent write-ups, including in this year's CC towcar awards.

Recommend you go for it. However, it may be worth seeing if ex-demonstrators are yet available. When I bought my Mondeo I saved

My first Mondeo (L-reg) was bought via Ford Direct. It was an ex Hertz car but absolutely unmarked as Ford Direct send their cars to a prep shop. It had the full warranty balance and although under a year old was less than 2/3rds list for a Ghia estate. It gave fantastic service and since then we have always hada Mondeo on the drive, and when the time Ford Direct may have some new Mondeos although around early Spring 2008 would be the time that the first ones will be appearing in some numbers. There are plenty of S-maxs avaialable now via Ford Direct.
