I found my Skoda Superb 4wd estate superior to the XC70 D5 AWD in all respects, and especially in its ability to accommodate luggage, dogs and people.

We are on a site in Yorkshire and there are four MK3 Kugas, besides ours, on an Adult only area of 9 pitches. Have previously had a Discovery, Sorento and a Santa Fe which there were plenty at the time of owning them ,but they are getting less on places we go.

As caravans got heavier, owners increasing turned to SUVs to tow them - the Sorento and Santa Fe were excellent value for such a task - but many owners didn't actually need 4wd or high ground clearance so have switched back to more conventional models.

Generally by opening the back door and peering in. 😱

Seriously though it’s more than adequate. There’s 580litres with the seats up and 1690 litres with the seats down. When they are down it’s not a flat load area as the front section inclines upwards. So when I put the large dog crate in behind the front seats I have to put a tightly rolled mat under its rear side in order to level it up.

It’s also got roof rails that can take my 375 litre roof box. But getting up to load the roof box requires some two step folding aluminium steps. We used the roof box recently travelling to the Lakes as soft furnishing covers and dog stuff are taken. So rather than loading the cars luggage space to the limit I prefer stuff up top. Less to haul out in the event of a puncture.
