I found my Skoda Superb 4wd estate superior to the XC70 D5 AWD in all respects, and especially in its ability to accommodate luggage, dogs and people. Some years ago sites were full of Kia Sorentos and Hyundai Santa Fe’s.
Here at Carnon Downs no Kia or Hyundai.
A varied selection but a noticeable number of Skoda Superb Estates and Mazdas - CX-5, CX- 60 and CX-80.
What about JLR, especially the new Defender?Don"t forget the Audi, Mercedes and Nissan
As caravans got heavier, owners increasing turned to SUVs to tow them - the Sorento and Santa Fe were excellent value for such a task - but many owners didn't actually need 4wd or high ground clearance so have switched back to more conventional models. Some years ago sites were full of Kia Sorentos and Hyundai Santa Fe’s.

How do you find luggage accommodation in the RAV?I found my Skoda Superb 4wd estate superior to the XC70 D5 AWD in all respects, and especially in its ability to accommodate luggage, dogs and people.
Generally by opening the back door and peering in. 😱How do you find luggage accommodation in the RAV?
Sadly we cannot use a roof box as car has the panoramic roof. When loading the Lexus, I preferred to have the "heavy stuff" as close to the rear axle as possible. As we have the dogs with us, I didn't bother with folding the rear seats, but I am sure that if I did, there would have been a bit more room as gaining about two foot extra.Generally by opening the back door and peering in. 😱
Seriously though it’s more than adequate. There’s 580litres with the seats up and 1690 litres with the seats down. When they are down it’s not a flat load area as the front section inclines upwards. So when I put the large dog crate in behind the front seats I have to put a tightly rolled mat under its rear side in order to level it up.
It’s also got roof rails that can take my 375 litre roof box. But getting up to load the roof box requires some two step folding aluminium steps. We used the roof box recently travelling to the Lakes as soft furnishing covers and dog stuff are taken. So rather than loading the cars luggage space to the limit I prefer stuff up top. Less to haul out in the event of a puncture.
With the dog crate transversely behind the front the front seats our heavy stuff holdalls and boxes are placed behind it. Then lighter stuff goes behind or on top. The car has a short overhang so most of our payload including the pooch and crate is forward of the rear axle. The roof box sits sort of middle of the cars cabin. We don’t take cooking utensils apart from a fry pan either glass vented lid. Other than that we rely on the accommodations own utensils. We are a bit strange I guess in not having a Ninja, electric grill or air fryer. Although years ago my wife insisted the Prestige Hi dome pressure cooker came with us even abroad too. 😂Sadly we cannot use a roof box as car has the panoramic roof. We managed to get everything in although a bit of a squeeze due to air fryer and grill and awkward size. Next time we will take the Ninja Max which as a built in grill as it will take a lot less room. Not keen on using an oven for grilling or doing chips. LOL!
Is that a Lexus limitation? I have panoramic roof on the Polestar, and it has dedicated fit roof bars, that I have put a roof box and a load of timber on.Sadly we cannot use a roof box as car has the panoramic roof. No idea, but cannot source roof rails from the usual suppliers. The panoramic roof is very wide being virtually from left to right side. The actual area of metal on either side is only a couple of inches. Is that a Lexus limitation? We tow with a CX80. Not seen another on the road let alone on a site yet! Some years ago sites were full of Kia Sorentos and Hyundai Santa Fe’s.

Yeah - same with mine. The "feet" locate into lugs moulded into the door frames, and have rubber pads that fit the contour of the shoulder and into the small trough between the glass and the roor. They are Polestar branded and bought as an accessory with the car, but are made by Thule. No idea, but cannot source roof rails from the usual suppliers. My car has an upward opening panoramic sunroof but can still use a roof box - just ensure there's enough clearance for the panel to open and slide back.Sadly we cannot use a roof box as car has the panoramic roof.
