Following on from Mel's comment about the patio heater, what's the most stupid/dangerous thing you've seen someone do on site or en route?

For me, I think it was the lad who towed his twin axle with three 50L water hogs (full of water) in the rear of his caravan. He'd also packed everything (microwave, deck chairs, table, 7kg spare bottle, awning, bedding, everything) in the rear of his caravan.

It was only when he made the comment that he thought his Land Rover was a poor towing vehicle, that he eventually went on to explain how he'd loaded his caravan.

The strange thing is I never swear, I think it is because I work with posh lady's, but when I was putting the awning up I just could not stop.
I was so angry with my self but it was the first time we went caravaning.
Reg
PS. I do not swear, honest.

Hi,

OT as far as caravans are concerned, but enough to make you shudder.......
An RAF coach driver had to change his front wheel, Despite removing all the wheel nuts, the wheel wouldn't come off the hub. So he crawled underneath, cuddled the front axle to get a firm base, then started to kick the front wheel with both feet. The wheel still wouldn't come off.
Then another Erk, walking past, mentioned that he hadn't jacked the wheel off the ground yet.

Is that an optical illusion?
Or does the car have modified suspension?
No its was not an optical illusion.
I have no idea if the suspension was modified or not but if it was it would have had to involve a lot more than beefing up the springs to be in anyway safe.

OMG. It made me shudder!!

Worst for me was FIL towing away with his jockey wheel still extended ploughing up the driveway at Dunnet Bay CC site

One of my brother in laws took out an electric hookup box whilst reversing onto a pitch.

you know when you are in a rush , especially to get the awning down before it starts raining?

you know when you have a peg puller but dont look for it becuse you are rushing to get the awning down before it starts it raining , and being a man i knw best anyway ?
you know when the ground is hard and no amount of pulling on the rubber tensioner will get the peg out ?
you know when the peg suddenly comes out and there is at least 12" of highly tensioned rubber ?
.

.
you know when the A & E staff at Scarborough ( who i could see were struggling to smother the giggles) last Monday clean out the wound on my left little finger, the bit where the gash was along its length that needed 6 stitches, and then splinted the finger as its broken in 2 places......
Next time i will find the peg puller..
Needless to say i did actually get the awning down and away before carting myself off to the hospital.
My could only complain about the amount of blood in the sink and shower tray..it was a devil to clean up.

Without the Blue Peugeot being witnessed driving on the road I can't see how you can pick on this person especially when you can read the number plate.
The bike looks like a Honda Monkey Bike and they are not exactly heavy. Our 940 and 960 Volvo's would take up that position and without a bike on the rear. As soon as you started moving after a few metres the Boge shocks levelled the car. Long ago father towed with a Vauxhall and a Renault both fitted with after market air suspension. They sagged in the same way until the car started to move.
It might look bad, but it could just as well have customised suspension and be very safe.
We don't know so why gloat?

HowHow can you make these assumptions, when you don't know the weight of the van, weight of the car,the noseweight, the tread on the tyres, service history of the van, state of the car, driving habits, etc, etc, etc.
Just because it's not being pulled by a big gas guzzling 4x4 doesn't make it unsafe.
In addition,I think snooping on others on site, taking picturtes probably from behind lace curtains, publishing their registration on the forum,is offensive,an invasion of privacy and downright sad.

A bit of basic engineering common sense goes a long way.
The bike if it was as has been suggested the ultra light Honda comes in at 63 kgs, the bike rack lets assume has been done for an optimistic 15 kgs, the caravan noseweight using another optimistic assumption comes in at just 50 kgs. Well that’s giving an optimistic minimum of 128kgs. Then we consider the cars ability; I seem to recall mine was just 50kgs.
I feel I am justified to assume it requires as I said “a lot more than beefing up the springs to be in anyway safe”.

I have no engineering experience but I certainly wouldn't like to risk driving it

Number plate aside I can't help feel on the face of it the Blue Pug satisfies the OP.

Thank you for bringing the registration number to my attention, it could be considered a gross breach of privacy to show the number plate without the owners permission in the context of the topic.
If any forum member submits a post with implied criticism such as the picture from JTQ they should ensure that the person(s) who they are referring to cannot be identified in any way otherwise the picture can't appear on the forum.
I managed to edit the first picture, the registration plate in the second picture can't be read but If I hadn't been able to edite the reg. number the photo would have been deleted.

Dustydog : " I can't help feel on the face of it the Blue Pug satisfies the OP"

Oh come on, making a mockery of someone with no proof of the facts is cheap sport.
And the caravan nose weight has nothing to do with the combined weight of rack and monkey bike providing the cars load limit was not exceeded.
And why would major engineering be needed? The correct shocks either self levellers or air take little time and effort to be fitted as do uprated springs and that's if you need them.
We used our 940 and 960 Volvo's as Seven seater's when we had Granny and Children with us. The approved self fit suspension mods could be fitted with ease before lunch and we would be very upset to have been photographed in a similar position to the Peugeot outfit and labeled dangerous idiots.

As for Trick Dicky. Yet another sillybilly 4x4 "gas guzzler" popularist press crud comment. There are plenty of two wheel drive cars solo and towing that guzzle more gas than 4x4 tow cars.

i agree witike on the OP. That particualar make of car , with the bike on the back is not designed to carry those loads on the rear trailing arms.
You can uprate the suspension as much as you want but it will not correct the basic issue of the vehicle being over weight at the rear.
omwI suspect that the steering was somewhat ...... vague.

I wonder how it performed under braking ?
