I have a motor mover single axle fitted, however when the mover is engaged onto tyres and moving it makes alot of sqeeking as rollers work on the tyres. The gap between rollers is correct, when dis engaged to test rollers there is only the noise of roller motors. The tyres are good the noise is made in both dry and wet conditions. I have contacted the manufactures they could only at this stage question the gap between rollers and tyres. I have video footage i can send onto anyone who can help.

The motor mover was bought brand new and professionally fitted.

Motor movers tend to be somewhat noisy when working - the motor noise is amplified through the gear train which is not apparent when the motors are run not engaged. The fairly high pitched sound could be mistaken for roller slippage until you get used to it.

Despite the noise, does the mover actually move the caravan correctly ? If sluggish, it could be that the clamping of the mover onto the chassis needs some tightening as the action of engagement pushes the mover away from the wheel slightly and actually causes some slip. Watch the end of the rollers carefully as you move the caravan - you may be able to detect some slippage and if so correct it but moving the mover very slightly ( a millimetre or so at a time)nearer to the wheel. You should see the tyre deform slightly when the roller engages.

Its 20mm as per manufacturer guide, it was a bit wider when fitted, but the manufacturer advised to make it the 20mm to bring to meet instructions but made no difference.

if there is a whistle that is normal. The motors are what is known as stepping motors and are driven by a variable frequency source so that speed can be adjusted.

Squeeking is not un-normal - mine often do it. I would suggest however that you confirm that the tyre pressures are correct. My caravan tyres should be at 58psi but I saw an identical caravan of the same age at our dealer and the labe on that l said 42psi. I queried it with the manufacturer and they said I was correct and sent the owner an new plate with advice on tyres. It also turned out that the manufacturer spares dept and the wrong size of tyre for my caravan in stock due to incorrect information supplied by their specialist tyre provider.

So check and check again. If the tyres are 185R14C L104/102 (a very common size) the expect pressures in the upper 50's or low 60's.

Are you sure about that?

Admittedly its some time since I have been directly involved with movers, but all the one I was aware of were ordinary dc motors, however the control system may have used pulse width modulation to achieve slow start and some speed control. - This can cause singing like some battery drills.

The book say the tyres should be set at 36psi which is how they are set, but i have noticed the tyre size fitted does not match that of the book, the book states 195/70/14, but fitted are 165/79/14. I dint want to be bying new tyres if this makes no different.

If as you say you had the mover professionally fitted, your first port of call should be the fitter, as you contracted them to fit the device. If its not working correctly they should be given the opportunity put it right.

Check out your legal rights under the Consumer rights Act, or if you purchased before Oct 2015 the Sale of Goods Act.

A company near wishaw carried out the work, i have already contacted them regarding this issue and they told me the noise was perfectly normal, they were not interested in doing any further checks as they know better than me, i have watched a corporate video on youtube from the manufacturer and there one does not make the noise.

Hello Andrew,
Please read the forum etiquette about naming companies where a dispute may be in play. Please edit and remove the name,

Regards the fitters response, Please do as I suggest about checking up on the Consumer Rights Act adn consider your position in the light of that. I suspect that if you let the company know that you intend to use the CRA they may change their tune.

Its all very well stating such as the above but when you use the Quote facility which contained the company name it stayed in your post AFTER the OP edited his post. !!
If you insist on pulling a user up for quoting against the rules, make sure your post does not also contain the same information
I have removed the name from the quote used..

There is no dispute in place, or legal action in place.

That may be the case at the moment but you will be trying to get this matter resolved which could become a dispute, so untll its resolved its best not to name companies, and then only name if its in a good light..

Hello Damian,
I was under the impression that if a quote was used, it would be automatically up dated if the original post was edited.

Over the years we have used three different motor movers and one of them occasionally made a squeeling noise now and again when moving the van.It was something we didn't bother about and it never gave us a problem.(we used it for 4 years)
Apart from the noise are there any other symptoms.
