Two points.... those who don't care about the cost, lucky you, but remember we are talking fossil fuels here.

The other is , how do some people get such huge mileages when towing ? I guess you must be the ones bringing vanners into disrepute by clogging the major highways traveling at 40mph.
The Skoda Octavia is an excellent tow car and give a good mpg.

Now! being a 4x4 driver (a**ehole as we are branded) they are not a cheap option to buy or run so I have given up worrying about cost or fossil fuel. Just want to enjoy it and the towing safety that it returns.

saab 93 2005 1.9tdi 150bhp max pull 1500

elddis 524l which is 1400 fully laden which normally about 1300

max with every thing in it

solo i get 49mpg combined

towing 30/32 mpg

car is a dream to tow with
 
Just back from a touring holiday in Dorset using Nissan X-Trail Sport 2.2DCI 136 bhp and Swift Challenger 470 giving approx. 84% ratio.

car towing 33 mpg

car solo 53 mpg

Total holiday mileage about 650 miles of which approx. 400 was towing.
