Car makers are very good at publishing optimistic solo mpg figures based on laboratory conditions, but in the real world what do we get towing and solo? We will all benefit from knowing what a particular car consumes when towing, so please respond with the type of car and weight of 'van - I'll kick off with mine:- BMW 525d Touring Auto pulling a Caravelair Eden 472 1300kg, solo = 40 mpg, towing = 24mpg at a steady 60.

Hi Mike I have a three year old BMW 530d manual tourer

the computer tells me that I am getting solo approx 45 towing approx 32mpg with a 1300kg van I have not done any full tank to emtpy maths

so I have my doubts as to the accuracy of trip conputers plus most of the towing was on motorways and

dual carraigeways so I very rarely had to come out of fifth gear

Mike, Mercedes M270 Cdi, Coachman Pastiche 1500kg AUW (and perhaps a bit more with the Spainish gin on board) Combined average over 4K miles 25mpg with 66% of that towing up to the local spped limits.

Not all that wonderful, but much much better than the Disco Tdi before and a much more comfortable tow.

I'm surprised at your very low figure for the Trooper, Dave. I've got a 3.5V6 Monterey (Trooper under another name) and it returns about 21mpg solo, 19mpg when towing 1300kg. It's not running on lpg, though.
