Wasn't there a super duper high performance Vauxhall Vectra in about 1996 that went like a bat out of hell. I drove one and the performance was breath taking and you had to be very careful. It was not my car.
Are you thinking of the VXR8?

6 litre 600 BHP but it wasn't released until 2007. Staying on topic, I'd imagine it would tow quite well. :ROFLMAO: ;)

Thanks. I thought that it had the designation VX, but probably not the same car. I think it was about 2000 that I drove one? Too much power.

Felt great on pulling of and on a straight run, but I was unsure on bends especially on A roads which are bumpy as it felt as if the rear end wanted to break away. Only drove it for about 100 miles and that was enough.

If it's the one I'm thinking of it was based on a Australian Holden vehicle. It may not have be homologated for towing.

When I worked in Oz my boss had one of those Holdens. Absolutely awesome, probably able to pull the A frame off a caravan or alternatively leave its boot structure on the dust.

I think they were the Holden Monaro? A really fast car, but apparently with poor road holding?

Vauxhall Carlton. There were questions asked in parliament on weather it should be allowed.
The OP could consider a an insignia tourer loads of kit and good value. Check my signature below.

I remember it as the Opel Carlton a vehicle used widely by our police. By all accounts a very nice car for its day.

There was nothing special about the Carlton. It was a large family, executive car. In the same bracket as the Granada. So why would Parliament have any interest?

There was a Lotus variant and also a small number with Holden DNA, the VXR8.

House of Commons Hascard debate Nov 16 1990.

Mr. Alex Carlile : Will the hon. Gentleman join me in condemning especially the heavy publicity that has been given recently to a Vauxhall Carlton which is capable, apparently, of achieving 170 mph? It should not be available for public purchase, even at the outrageous price of, I think, Β£45,000.

Sir Anthony Grant : I entirely agree with the hon. and learned Gentleman. I would not, however, confine my criticism to the Vauxhall company. I could mention many other motor car manufacturers, but I shall not do so.

Mr. Roger King : I understand that General Motors and Vauxhall are not selling the 470 high-speed Carltons that will be available--they have been subjected to intense development by the General Motors Lotus subsidiary in this country, and will reap some export rewards as a result-- without the purchasers and future users having gone through a test. If my memory serves me right, that is the position.

Sir Anthony Grant : I am grateful to my hon. Friend, who has led me to standards of driving. I am glad to know that some motor car manufacturers are taking the issue seriously. The standard of our driving tests is entirely inadequate for our modern roads and modern vehicles. I

The 170 mph car was the Lotus Carlton. The fastest Vauxhall Carlton was the 3000 GSI 24v at 145-150mph.
